Slickdeals just isn't what it used to be. Very few deals. Just promoted crap like this. Unfortunately there are still deals here and there isn't a good alternative yet.
Just keep raising awareness that it's definitely buyer beware when looking at a staff posted "deal"
Biggest issue is when turning. Turning is not variable. You're either at a full turn or going straight lol. Makes banging into the wall a constant. Definitely not for the off road. smooth surfaces only for the most part. Not a horrible purchase for 10 bucks but nothing amazing...
I wish there was no list price field at all!!!! All it does is cause drama in the comments.

I'm a deal editor and posting deals is not a requirement of the job (supposed to be FP'ing deals, not posting them). I do it for the community, to share good deals! Sometimes I make a mistake and post some less than stellar deals, but for the most part I think they are pretty good?

You're telling us there's nothing fishy about that?
You're telling us Slickdeals doesn't get paid to promote specific products, especially certain ones from certain manufacturers and certain products? And just where is that disclosed ANYWHERE in the post that it's a paid advertisement?! Most Everywhere else online people have the decency to disclose when something is sponsored content. Now tell me where is that label on any of these "deals".
These purposely obfuscated shill posts are the downfall of this site by clogging up the whole page with paid sponsorship that isn't disclosed as such. It ruins trust where the goal of staff posted deals is just to grab that click through and that sale. The post has nothing to do with it being a deal at all. That's why there's so much cheap crap promoted to the front page. It's the easiest to convince someone to make a spontaneous purchase regardless on if it's a deal or not.
And maybe you specifically aren't doing that. But it sure feels like 90% of what gets posted to Slickdeals anymore is this type of staff sponsored shill posts.

I can't comment really comment on the rest, I'm just an hourly wage employee at the bottom of the totem pole and not privy to SD revenue specifics. It is disclosed on all posts that if/when you make a purchase SD may receive a commission (this is rather standard for all deal sites I believe).
What I can say is that nothing I personally post is a "paid advertisement". I primarily look for price drops on Amazon, you will see if you looked at my post history that ~90% of my posts are things at their lowest price ever at the time of the post, or beat recent posts if it is not the lowest price ever.
I'm all for SD staff only posting quality deals, and in fact the majority of my thumbs downs are on staff deals, because I feel as staff we should be held to a higher standard only posting quality deals (of course people make mistakes, I've misjudged slickness of some deals before).
Lastly, I do try to only promote quality products to the FP at good prices (that's my job as a Deal Editor), but at the core the site is community driven. If the community likes a deal then that should over-rule my personal feelings towards it, unless there is a strong reason to hold it back from the FP.

But, those of us who have been here awhile have seen a marked decrease in the quality of the deals posted with sponsored "deals" taking up a majority of the front page. In fact I don't use the front page very much at all anymore because of that. It's not based on popularity if there is still a staffer that monitors it and determines what hits front page and what doesn't. And lately posts like this that sure look like it's sponsored have been taking up the majority of the posts. Staff deals are promoted way faster to front page and there's an army of undisclosed shillers promoting posts and making ridiculously positive statements about the product. We're tired of seeing every single ESR branded product hitting FP, or crappy plastic Clark shoes hitting FP. Specifically this same exact deal hit front page just a few days ago and all of a sudden it's back as a fresh new deal?
And I do understand the general disclosure about affiliate links. Which does indeed grease the wheels of the internet economy. But the specifically underhanded ways that Slickdeals doesn't disclose when a deal is actually sponsored content is definitely below board. That is something else and akin to a YouTuber posting a review on a product without disclosing that the manufacturer of the product paid him for a positive review and told him exactly what to say about it.

Speakingly candidly, some Deal Editors do have a lower threshold in terms of what constitutes a FP deal. My number of deals promoted to the FP is probably around the lowest among all Deal Editors (largely a byproduct of working a graveyard shift).
One factor on staff deals is that there is a page suggesting users to follow staff, as a result staff does tend to have more followers (I have a couple thousand myself, but who knows how many are still active users).
As a whole as the internet matures it seems like there are less truly amazing price mistake or inadvertent coupon style deals out there now vs a decade ago, or significantly less than the infancy of SD nearly 2 decades ago, so I could agree w/ you that as a whole the qualify of deals has declined, but I wouldn't say this is specific to SD.
To wrap up this long post, there have of course been instances of shilling on SD. Surely you've seen several brands that are "urlhasbeenblocked" as a result of breaking the rules on SD. Where there is money to be made there will always be some bad actors. I can say the mods do their best to combat this, and are very much against shilling! And we as Deal Editors will also be skeptical of certain brands that are lesser known, or known for low quality products.
All I wish is that Slickdeals would fully disclose promoted deals and that the ridiculous obviously fake supportive posts in those deals would stop. I like this website but I certainly wish it operated more above board.

Btw, I did overlook one part of your prior comment. The previous thread for this RC car was from Walmart only. I noticed the drop at Amazon, did a SD search, and saw that at that time the Walmart deal had fallen pretty far down the FP. Decided it was worth a new post since so many people have Prime and may be more likely to purchase a $10 item w/ that vs having Walmart+ or spending another $25 for it to be shipped free.
