Just did a PC Part Picket test... Even if you bought the cheapest B650/X670/B760/Z790 WiFi mother board & case & 750+W PSU, you would still pay more than this combo. It got me to $220, including bottom-of-the-barrel brands.

So, in my book, this is a decent deal.

Add AMD 8700G and 6000 RAM and you get a decent gaming PC without buying a GPU

$179 for the cheapest AM5 processor (and not a bad one, either). Add RAM for $80 or so and you are set for $460.(+ tax... actually, this isn't exactly a steal). Also note that there is an Intel equivalent to this setup that is also on sale for $200.

Eight miles away aka 4 hour trip.
You're not lying. I was staying next to Chinatown in Boston and the Micro-Center is in Cambridge, 4.5 miles away. It took me 45 minutes to get back to my hotel by car at 5 pm.

You want to stick with Intel if you are going to run Plex for hardware transcoding. Look for a processor with built in iGPU (non F version).
Plex transcoding is unbelivably inefficient with subtitles. Jellyfin is much more performant but its client apps suffer. Works great in a browser though.

They should've stepped it up to an 850W PSU at that price...

For those of us that live in non-MC land, are there any combos available for shipping or from another retailer for a little more? I'm planning to do a new AMD CPU build next month and will largely be starting from scratch.

I have this case, its really good if you're not into RGB. Clean lines, great airflow, easy to work with. Fits a jumbo sized GPU.

Unfortunately the last couple of solid combo deals have been MC driven.

Something I would recommend would be standalone CPU deals, as those have been reasonably common for Intel and AMD from online retailers like Newegg and Amazon. If you have a preferred platform already in mind (so a source for RAM and motherboard) you could wait out for a solid CPU deal to pop in to help construct a DIY combo deal.

Otherwise hats off to MC for bringing back the high-value combo deals with about the only $200-ish offers in the last couple of years.

Good luck!
Jon

Not necessarily...there's advantages of Intel, but ONLY if you have the need for it. There just aren't many use cases where this is widely applicable. For the most part this is dated advice (relevant but definitely not for everyone),

This looks like a good deal but I have built Intel systems for decades and I always get confused by the AMD CPU and MB parts. How do you identify the generation and processing power of an AMD CPU? Do sockets change like underwear as with Intel or is AM5 the latest? Is there a chipset component in performance and features like Intel? How does memory type change performance? It taxes my little brain to keep up with Intel and I can't seem to do the same with AMD.

I need to replace my current Twitch Streaming PC, wonder how this would work out (the Intel version).

Thanks, good to know. I'll likely look for a solid CPU deal and just wait until my next business trip to a MC area for the rest.
