The largely unnoticed fleecing of the consumer.
For decades the standard size of a tuna can was 7 ounces. Over the past 15 years or so. the manufacturers have deceptively incrementally downsized it, first to 6.5 oz, then 6 oz, then down to 5.5 oz about 8-10 years ago, and now it's at 5 oz.

That's nearly a 30% reduction in the tuna by can, at present.
Pretty soon you're going to need tweezers to find the tuna in a can.
Solid tuna means that it has larger, firmer pieces with fewer flakes; whereas chunk tuna comes in smaller pieces that vary in size.

Solid white tends to have more mercury if that's a concern.

What's a safe amount to eat tuna? I eat sardines a couple times a week if I'm lazy to cook and need a fast protein source

Solid is a lot easier to drain the water 💦

Sardines are very clean fish being close to bottom of food chain. FDA says one can consume two to three 5 oz cans of chunk light tuna a week. Albacore contains 3x the mercury of chunk light tuna tho so FDA recommends only one 4 oz serving a week or approximately one 5 oz can of Albacore tuna.

Is Starkist Solid White Albacore better than the Walmart Great Value Chunk Light which is sold for $0.88/5oz? I know solid white should be better but Walmart's chunk light isn't too bad and much better than Bumble Bee.

Less than $1 per can for solid white tuna is a great price, even by pre-pandemic standards.

In for a 24 pack at $20.71.

I generally pick up the Chunk Light Tuna, not sure what the Albacore is, but it was always more expensive so I passed when I bought my tuna in the store.

Sounds like you want to consume a medically inadvisable amount of tuna
