Just a FYI - if you have a keyboard with trackpad for your s8+ and are planning to upgrade to s9+ - it does NOT fit correctly. The back cover does not align with the camera and the stylus has move slightly making the fit very clumsy. it is still functional as a kickstand though. They keyboard fits but feels very lose when attached. It is also very sporadic when using the keyboard and really unusable. Just thought I would share that info with anyone considering the upgrade.

It's definitely not. I'm having trouble finding a reason to upgrade from the S7+.

I've caved in and doing it every year basically. I justify it by simply thinking about how much I use the products vs cost. Few hundred bucks a year for something I use literally daily is more than justified to me. And I also think about the fact that the longer I hang on to it the more it'll cost me to trade it in lol, so what am I saving really?

Then I also consider how much I spend on other crap through the year that I get no use out of.

It also depends on if you're a fully working adult vs a young guy living on the cheap at which point I am questioning why you're buying flagship model electronics.

Seems straight forward to me

Speed? Battery degradation? Better screen? I guess if you use it more as an everyday device it may be worth it. My S8+ seems to be rock solid - negligible speed difference and the screen is the same.
1. No difference in speed unless you are playing high-end games or something.
2. They have the exact same screens
3. Battery degradation is negligible.

Same here. Don't see any difference between S7+ and S8+ or S9+, other than security updates.
so when is the best time to tradein S7+? value is going down everyday i presume. by the time S10+ rolls around, IF its worth upgrading, what value will i get for s7+?

I am not sure there will really be a right time. I'm just waiting for one of the crazy tablet deals Samsung has done in the past when I upgrade. In the meantime, the S7+ still feels like a flagship tablet to me.

My only concern with the s7+ would be when they stop supporting the updates. I rarely use mine and was surprised at how nice the screen looks. Still unless Samsung has a crazy deal I'm probably gonna go with Apple for my next tablet.

That's fair. Personally, I'll never go Apple. I just love Android.

In September there will be bundle deals which are typically the best deals.

You typically get tablet trade-in for the new tab for FREE, yes you heard that right... For FREE.

And you get a phone trade-in for ~$250-$350

So in total you'll pay only for the phone trade-in.

Now it's up to you if you can wait until September or not lol
I think if wait 9 years instead of 9 months i can get it on eBay with no trade in for like 15 bucks.

I upgrade my phone and tablet every September.

I see what you're saying though... Upgrade them every 9 years

So I upgrade phone and tablet every 12 months exactly

How often are you upgrading your equipment?

I understand where you're coming from; I'm a professional and use my phone a lot (Currently have a fold5), but these incremental upgrades are so slight that they rarely seem worthwhile. I previously went from a note10+ to a S22U and even though that's multiple generations newer, the new phone is almost identical to the old one, physically it's the same. The new one is a faster processor but it's not like the old one was laggy and horrible to use, it was just as good as the new one. The only real advantage I found with the S22U was the telephoto lens that the note10+ didn't have.

I *want* to upgrade often. I like new stuff. But they are giving me barely any justification to do so.

Lol I completely understand. After literally one day of getting on the "new" device, I completely forget that I'm on the NEW FLAGSHIP lol.

To actually get an upgrade I feel like you have to wait 5 generations.

Every few years something new gets implemented, either bigger batteries, actual camera upgrades (none of these zoom changes), 120hz refresh rate, and now AI I guess.

I completely agree though. I would say the primary reason I even upgrade yearly has more to do with simply wanting to have the latest product. I definitely don't think anybody can actually justify getting these things because they're actually getting something new that they were missing on their previous device.

I was upgrading on actual release dates, but I felt like a fool lol. So I just changed to upgrading every September as I also upgrade my tablet. and Samsung just happens to do much better bundle deals at least. So now rather than upgrading each device separately, I'm doing a bundle trade-in every September or whenever the tablet also gets released.

looking at the s24 I have to say I see absolutely NOTHING that I feel I'm lacking on my s23. like NO THING

Most phones and tablet's upgrade has been lackluster lately. I upgraded from the S7FE to the S9+ but didn't really noticed the difference. Even with the better screen I didn't noticed it much. If I had to pay $900 for the S9+ I would return it, even at a $313 price to upgrade it seems unnecessary.
