Straight up - if you're getting a TV of this size, PLEASE make sure you are positing it right! You're going to need it to be lower than you imagine as the goal is to watch TV in the middle of the screen. I can easily imagine this being mounted too high and it looking crappy.

This should be like a projector. Remember in school the teacher would pull it down and it would be a bit low? That was so you could sit in your chair and easily see it. Don't mount high!!!

Yes it was only made public 2 weeks ago at the CES 2024, came out faster than thought just happened to be on Best Buy site and was like is this real, someone will need to comment on differences between 2023 U8K and 2024 U7, I figure I can cancel if its big, but u8k 100" has been out of stock for a long time and it costs more

Based on actual size rather than class size, this TV has a 4.14% larger area compared to the TCL 98". 168.35 inches² more screen real estate. For those that need the numbers rather than trying to visualize the difference.

Dang thought this was the U8K for $3k again and almost purchased without without thinking.

U8K is worth the $1k premium over the TCL for $2k but don't think this one is from the looks of it. This looks similar or a little better than the TCL 98R754 which is also $3k.

bought 100" U8K last month. U8K has mini LED where U76 is QLED. U76 is just new build model with lower specs. I would highly recommend U8K over U76.

I just got the TCL 98in. It's good but I'd love the darks to be darker. Would the local dimming on this tv achieve that?
I know U8K would be better but Amazon lost my order..

Can you disable all the Google crap on this and just hook a Roku to it? The Google takes like a week to get past setup.

Just ordered from Bestbuy! Wish me luck. I feel bad because my Samsung 85" Q90C arrives tomorrow and now I will have to refuse the delivery.
Should have gone with an LG OLED.

Local dimming will increase the look of blacks, yes. It comes as a trade off oftentimes though as you'll get some detail loss/blooming (where light bleeds from a lit area into an unlit one) — the more dimming zones you have the less pronounced this is.

This is their cost down version. Non mini led, lower zones and lower brightness.

I think for a TV of this size going to around the top of the bottom 1/3 is fine. But agree- it's so easy to mount things too high because you see it all the time and think that's the best then you're straining your neck looking up.

Excellent point. When I had techs from Best Buy mounted my 85" TV in our basement last year I thought it was mounted too low because it was only about 6-12" above our TV stand. The tech said that it was mounted at the best viewing angle. It just didn't look right and I figured I would have to call them back out to remount it. However, when I sat down later and started watching TV it was actually mounted perfectly.

It strikes me as a bit insane to make a so-called budget line that cost $3,000. If you are at the point where you can spend that kind of money on a tv. You probably want the best...
the best in this case just being more production of the U8 instead of wasting time producing a slightly inferior model

Not my cup of tea, but a lot of people seem to care about quantity (size and brightness) over quality (detail and accuracy) when it comes to TVs.

Why? The Q90c was the correct choice for an 85 inch. I have the Q90a, would never entertain the thought of an LG OLED.
