OnePlus themselves has told people recycle it or keep it if your sentimental they could care less there's no trade in evaluation whatsoever. They even call it a $100 recycling reward.

After using OP's fast charge for over 3 years on my 8T, I can't imagine caring any less about a feature on a phone than wireless charging.

Pixel 8 has better camera, wireless charging and lighter compare to 12R. It also holds better trade-in value and software support in the future. For me, I will choose Pixel 8. Performance should not be much different on daily activities.

I don't think i can ever go back to non wireless charging and usb 2.0. Maybe if it's a very usable $15 or less tracfone from QVC.

True. I still have a 7T phone and the battery lasts a long time, AND charges 80% in about 30 minutes

the 12R really looks like a home run to me in terms of tradeoffs. they kept the display from the 12 with the 4500 nits marketing. fast charging etc.

btw i dont think anybody will get near 4500 nits out of this, but gsm arena clocked it at 1200 in ideal conditions (bright light and set to auto), which is great,

so what youre losing is downgrade from sd 8 gen 3 to gen 2, wireless charging? probably some camera lenses i dont know nor care about? all while chopping 200 nominally off a already good price on the 12.

these phone chips pack way way more power than we actually need for a long time now (the proof was when they started secretly throttling them by default out of the box). my 4 gens old sd 865 is still plenty fast and outbenchmarks todays mid range chips. so i'm fine with the cpu downgrade. they kept all the good stuff basically.

i'm leaning at 12r even though i dont love the curved display. tbh i should wait another yr since they'll probably copy samsung and go flat next yr, but whatever. i know i should save a hundy and go with the 8gb, but mentally i just want the 16. the way certain discounts work out (aka 10% student on the 16gb but not the 8) it's less than 100 anyway.

the 12r isnt shipping til mid february though, which is oddly bumming. also there is no youtube presence for the 12R to speak of, i'm sure it's still not been sent to reviewers/nda as they want to pimp the flagship 12 for a while.
12R is the same as the ace 3 launched earlier in China except for some band support difference. There is a youtube review on ace 3: https://youtu.be/fVILSedHzNg?si=DB7c_Pzuw_2yg6el

both have dual sim slots if their spec isn't wrong. it's weird though that they list this info under Connectivity section for 12R but under Ports section for 12

It appears like a good deal at first. But this one has inferior camera to the 12, and my Op experience with the cameras always disappointing

The phone has 8GB of RAM and 128GB of UFS 4.0 storage. The cameras are downgraded, too. The main sensor is a 50 MP Sony IMX890, which is usually a secondary camera on other phones. Then the other two rear cameras sound like junk: an 8 MP wide-angle camera with no autofocus and a 2 MP "macro" lens. The front camera is 16 MP and also doesn't have autofocus. The phone has an IP64 dust and water resistance rating, which means it's only "splash proof"—I don't even think you can run it under a sink faucet. (Sometimes, I wash my IP68 phone in the sink like it's a dirty dish!) There's also no wireless charging
Haha I don't know what those numbers mean but I know the number that's most important which is 300 bucks cheaper
