It's a drop in upgrade and the platform isn't dead... My B550 motherboard still gets firmware updates.

For productivity work (rendering, compiling, photoshop, video editing) yes. For gaming, no. For general desktop use like web browsing, you likely wouldn't notice any difference.

Yes, unless you are looking for gaming performance then the 5800x3d may have an edge with the extra 3d cache in gaming "from what I hear"
This has 16 cores and 32 threads vs 8/16 and should chew through heavy multitasking number crunching data close to twice as fast

Its great for productivity so if you render video, produce music etc then it will be great for that. The 5800X3D is good for gaming and gets beaten by the 5950X in some cases in productivity.

This will go great with my RTX 3050 😂

I'm kind of on the fence of upgrading or holding off and sticking with my 3600 until after ryzen 8000 comes out, I want to see what the second gen AM5 has to bring before i consider sticking with AM4 or upgrading then because right now it's not worth the upgrade to me

Seems like this has been creeping down in cost over the past week or two. May wait to see if it still keeps going down. Started at like $400, and here we are.

This has dropped pretty fast. I remember buying the 5900x for $380 a year ago.
