Wouldn't pay over $100 for B550 its already 4 years old if spending that much should be getting newer AM5 B650 which is similar priced $110-$150 for M-ATX
it's probably not your motherboard

In my pc-building lifetime I've had probably 3 or 4 Gigabyte boards and never had a single problem.
edit- forgot to mention, every one of them, up to my last build, was an AMD cpu, so take it for what it's worth.

Recently (this month)I started using a ryzen 5 5600x build with an itx version of this mobo. I kept getting stuttering randomly on the desktop when mouse navigated. Even in bios mouse would stutter. Then coworker said update bios, and updated to 12/2023 version. Seemed to fix it. Just thought I'd share.

I've always assumed (with no evidence) that Gigabyte mobos aren't good quality. Anyone have firsthand experience with them? I have an Asus ROG and am unsure if it's the reason my pc regularly locks, requiring a restart. Potentially looking for a new AM4 mobo.

I have a Gigabyte B450 board running for about 3 years now. Started with a 2700x and now running a 5600x.

No issues and upgrades have worked well.

I have used Gigabyte motherboards for years. At one time they were the go to motherboards for me and I built more computers than I can remember. Their online tech support people were my personal friends for years and really good people. I never had a problem with Gigabyte motherboards. They were high quality and the tech support was amazing. I have gotten away from Gigabyte motherboards in the last 5 years or so...been using ASUS, ASRock, MSI, ect. due to lower prices. Most worked well.

In the last year I have purchased 4 MSI AMD motherboards and everyone of them gave me terrible problems in one way or another and their tech support was horrific. They had no clue how to fix the problems and often the problem was their poorly designed BIOS! I have scratched MSI motherboards off my list of vendors.

I have the B550M DS3H AC M-ATX version with a Ryzen 5600G series processor and it's been rock solid for nearly a year. This is about the 8th AMD GB board I've built / owned and they've all performed wonderfully.

I like their Q-Flash Plus, saved sending the mobo back. I was messing with xmp memory timings and the mobo got stuck where it wouldnt even post. Tried shorting leads and taking battery out for 15 minutes didnt work. Was like the bios got corrupt. Then as a last resort tried their Q-Flash Plus with a usb bios file and was able to fix the problem. I've been running 2 sticks total 64gb of ram at 3600 cl18 with zero issues since the tiktok newgg blackfriday deals.

More recent builds have been some sort of Asus board. But prior to Asus, I used gigabyte ultra durable boards, further back I used Abit (sad I miss Abit). I had one build that had used MSI. The only one that ever had a problem was the MSI.

No issues with gigabyte mobos on AMD, with mild overclocks. its actually the first brand I've never had an RMA with.

Let's poor one out for Abit 🍾. Still have one going strong in my mother's PC. As for Gigabyte, I've been running one combined with an Intel I5-6600k for the past 7 years and never had a problem. The only Mobo that gave me issues over the years was MSI.

MSI B550 PRO VC (micro and ATX) are the best price/features

I have a formula, lol. 1 star reviews can't be more than 10% of the 5 star reveiws. So if there are 65% 5 star, 1 star can't be more than 6%. This seems to work well so far.

I do the same thing. I am building a pc for the first time in 12 years and am really shocked at how bad the reviews are on Amazon for motherboards.

Also, Newegg is killing me with the 3rd party market bullshit they started.

I've read this allot with gigabyte motherboard reviews. Updating bios fixing most issues. Adjusting overlock settings fix the rest.

Newegg. . . avoid if you can. I'm not bad-mouthing them, but they aren't who they were 12 years ago. Lots of youtube videos on 'new' boards with damage and impossible returns.
Glad you're back in the fight!!
So, I use Newegg for product info, options, and getting a gauge on pricing. I live near a MicroCenter so I can then go there and get the things I need. BUT, MC has a 15 day return window whereas Amazon has by far the best return policy.
So get what you can on Amazon in case you don't like it or if there are issues and whatever, you're covered by their return policy. And Newegg is probably fine, just with anything be cautious where you can. Have some fun!
