edit- forgot to mention, every one of them, up to my last build, was an AMD cpu, so take it for what it's worth.
I have a Gigabyte B450 board running for about 3 years now. Started with a 2700x and now running a 5600x.
No issues and upgrades have worked well.
In the last year I have purchased 4 MSI AMD motherboards and everyone of them gave me terrible problems in one way or another and their tech support was horrific. They had no clue how to fix the problems and often the problem was their poorly designed BIOS! I have scratched MSI motherboards off my list of vendors.

No issues with gigabyte mobos on AMD, with mild overclocks. its actually the first brand I've never had an RMA with.
Let's poor one out for Abit 🍾. Still have one going strong in my mother's PC. As for Gigabyte, I've been running one combined with an Intel I5-6600k for the past 7 years and never had a problem. The only Mobo that gave me issues over the years was MSI.
I do the same thing. I am building a pc for the first time in 12 years and am really shocked at how bad the reviews are on Amazon for motherboards.
Also, Newegg is killing me with the 3rd party market bullshit they started.
I've read this allot with gigabyte motherboard reviews. Updating bios fixing most issues. Adjusting overlock settings fix the rest.

Glad you're back in the fight!!
So, I use Newegg for product info, options, and getting a gauge on pricing. I live near a MicroCenter so I can then go there and get the things I need. BUT, MC has a 15 day return window whereas Amazon has by far the best return policy.
So get what you can on Amazon in case you don't like it or if there are issues and whatever, you're covered by their return policy. And Newegg is probably fine, just with anything be cautious where you can. Have some fun!
