Seems like a great deal. The processor is kind of weak and may limit this laptop's longevity. But for this price, you can't expect much.
NVME drive is is only x2 lines instead of x4, so speed is slow, 1800. What is limited by laptop, not drive!

I am sure it's not that heavy.....
People on SD are fragile. 4lbs could break their backs in half.

So... what would the experts recommend as a better alternative at this price point?

I got this laptop during the late November Slickdeal for it. The touchscreen sometimes stops working until I reboot into Safe Mode and back into regular mode. Also, the fan sometimes runs after I do a Shut Down (not Sleep) until I hold down the power button for 10-20 seconds. Would doing a clean install of Win11 fix those issues?

Aside from those issues, it's a decent non-gaming laptop. The screen is doable, not great. Surfing is fast in Edge. I have two monitors hooked up without a docking station.

The main attractions are the 16GB RAM (though not upgradeable Frown ), 4k60Hz output on the HDMI port, dual monitor support without a docking station, and USB-C charging.

Build quality doesn't seem flimsy.

Sounds like "modern standby" in Windows. The fan keeps running because it's not truly off, and Microsoft has decided it's going to snoop around on your machine for a while to install "updates".

Thanks for the info! Looks like I'll need to do a Registry hack to disable Modern Standby.

Weak as in compared to what?
Weak compared to any modern CPU, even ones from a couple years ago.

AMD recently changed their mobile naming to deceive consumers. The Ryzen 7520u is Mendocino, AKA Zen 2, a CPU architecture that launched in 2019. This has only 4 cores of an old crappy architecture. The iGPU only has 2 CU's of RDNA2, making it useless for anything but basic browsing.

For those that dont understand the technical aspects, this is basically an e-waste laptop for anything but basic web browsing and cloud applications. Spend $100 more and youll get a laptop that is significantly better and will last for years.

You are not being entirely honest, or you don't understand.

The bottom line is the underlying "architecture" doesn't matter squat. What matters is [relative] performance, and price. Performance doesn't care about architecture, it cares about results. The CPU performs on par with it's "current gen" architecture peers that are vying for this price point. Full stop.

It is *not* the same chip from 3 years ago; portions of the arch of an older chip were re-used, but updated to fit on a new package, integrated with a different GPU, and manufactured with a smaller transistor size. This allowed them to make changes to the thermal profile and clock speeds.

It's not rocket science that a higher end design from 2-3 years ago will compete with budget designs of today. Why would you feel any better if the same performance was harnessed from a different architecture? Who tf cares? It's a <$300 laptop, get over it.

Got this laptop recently. It's fine for everyday use like surfing, word, YouTube, etc. even on battery mode. Didn't use it for gaming or any cpu-intensive tasks.
One thing though. Most times it is fast and responsive. But sometimes it gets slow, to a point that it takes a second or two to react. That happens both when on battery and plugged in. Checked the CPU, ram, and disk usage and none are high. So I don't know what is causing it. My only guess is drivers. But would love to know if others face the same issue and were able to fix it.

Just opened mine and first impressions it's great for the price. Touchscreen works and is responsive. Keyboard includes the 10key and trackpad is decent and big. Came with a zippered neoprene laptop case. One thing I don't like is the fan noise as it's on already just to try to setup Win11 but that's my minor gripe. It's going to be given to an older relative who just wants to use it for web browsing and Youtube. Hopefully this fits the bill.

Im a noob, can you please suggest better for $100 more? Using as a desktop replacement. I appreciate the help.

Example: Is this vivobook worth the extra over this one? Im using tinkercad and other basic internet stuff.
