I'm not gonna waste my time upgrading a 1215 with more RAM, though.
However, FYI, it has 8GB RAM soldered and an empty SODIMM slot for upgrade.

The Acer is almost as good as the Lenovo (which honestly is not all that nice - but adequate). Graphics were slightly worse on the Acer - but that was the only noticeable difference in normal use (surfing, youtube, emails, etc). But for the 50% price premium ($266 for this Acer vs. $399 for the Lenovo), I was leaning towards keeping the Acer an d returning the Lenovo... That was until my kiddo tried to play Roblox - Gunfight Arena on the Acer. Glitch city. It plays smoothly on the Lenovo.
That said, will be returning the Acer. BTW, I asked in a previous thread if anyone did not get a touchscreen with theirs, with no replies. For the record, mine came with a touchscreen that worked fine.
If I needed a basic windows laptop to do basic things, I'd keep the Acer. As I have a kiddo that likes to play some game that gobbles up computing power, I have to pay the extra for a better processor.

Purchased a second laptop on Jan 19, started to setup for use (about 1 hour total use), got some system updates and after doing this the system turned off. It would never power back up. Tried multiple times holding down the power button for a hard reset, but no response. Sent this back for RMA (free return shipping label) on Jan 22, they received it Jan 25, have to wait until Jan 29 for a refund. They don't do any exchanges. I'm not sure if I want to buy another one or not.
FP performance matters for 3D graphics, like gaming, or GPU compute tasks. Neither of those is the target user base of the 7520u. It's meant for home/office productivity.
Actual benchmarks that look at GPU performance as a whole would rate it about half the performance of a Vega 8 for graphics intensive applications:

(Again, those are looking at graphics intensive tasks, which general web browsing, video watching, document editing, bill paying, light games, etc., are *not*).
Also, keep in mind the Vega 8, performance wise, is no slouch for iGPUs, and outclassed the equivalent Intel offerings until only very recently.
When you buy a minivan, you don't need a Ferrari V12 engine. It does not help you accomplish minivan-related tasks any better (in fact, it's a detriment in many respects).
Personally I don't like going backwards in performance, and I've had at least a Vega 6 in prior gen SOCs so the 7520u was a tough sell for me.

the fruit company forces you to use 8 gigs soldered or pay a huge ransom to get to 16 gigs and locks you into not being able to upgrade from 8 to 16 gigs on your own.
what is the value of not being able to repair, upgrade or replace you own stuff? some people like this Insanity, meh not me. some people are afraid to pop the back off and do simple maintenance on their machines like cleaning them.
this type of thinking wears me out, but the masses that don't care kinda bring the mess on to the rest of us. funny thing, all of life works that way............over the cliff. have fun.

Why can't you replace the CPU? The GPU? The voltage regulators? The video mux FPGA/ASIC?
It's not the 1990's any more; the systems are now all highly integrated SoCs, and the fact is if you felt you needed more RAM, you would have bought a machine with it in the first place. Why force yourself to suffer with less memory for years, then add it on right at the end of the lifespan of your device? The computer won't be able to leverage any new memory technology, only what was already available when it was manufactured.
If you could update the CPU, then maybe? Except this would likely affect the heatsink design and cooling solution.
The fact is virtually nobody ever "upgrades" the RAM in laptops any more, especially on consumer grade models. Soldered memory cuts down on failures (fewer sockets/contact pins to fail due to corrosion, mechanical vibration/fatigue, etc), cuts down on cost (less parts), assembly time (mainboard gets baked once either way), makes it lighter, thinner, and consume less power (it takes power to push electrons through longer circuit traces, and especially LPDDRx uses simplified electronics due to the shorter traces).
What's next, you want to be able to upgrade components within the SoC? You gonna go roll your own silicon?
I love tinkering with my computers, but you've gotta realize what you're suggesting really isn't a practical thing. At best it's a hobby.
