The memory is soldered on the motherboard so you cannot upgrade the memory. But 16g is decent for this laptop

For everyday use? No it's fine.

My wife is still using her ryzen 5 3500u laptop (with 16gb ram) which is maybe 20% slower. It performs fine in everyday tasks.

The ryzen 5 3500u Passmark score is 6970 and the 7520u is 9456, more like 35% lol

I bought this and rec'd December 4th. It has a touch screen, looks brand new, and it performs great for non-gaming everyday tasks. If you just need a laptop with a a decent screen to do "regular stuff" then maybe buy this one.

Why single out system RAM? Why not graphics RAM?

Why can't you replace the CPU? The GPU? The voltage regulators? The video mux FPGA/ASIC?

It's not the 1990's any more; the systems are now all highly integrated SoCs, and the fact is if you felt you needed more RAM, you would have bought a machine with it in the first place. Why force yourself to suffer with less memory for years, then add it on right at the end of the lifespan of your device? The computer won't be able to leverage any new memory technology, only what was already available when it was manufactured.

many reasons to upgrade Ram. you may have bought a unit as a close out at Costco like i did, or as a Refurb from Dell. many of the Dell's have 8 gigs of ram for a cheap price, very simple to pop in another 8 gigs for a machine which can have many programs open all day before needing a restart.

If you could update the CPU, then maybe? Except this would likely affect the heatsink design and cooling solution.

usually the CPU is good enuf. leave it alone, they are soldered in on laptops. my desktops don't need that kind of upgrade.

The fact is virtually nobody ever "upgrades" the RAM in laptops any more, especially on consumer grade models.

depends who the nobody is. people that know better will upgrade a machine with 4 or 8 gigs of ram and also upgrade the SSD to something better. plenty of machines i have pulled the old spinner hard drive out and installed a SSD for better performance. a like new machine.

if you are afraid of your computer leave it alone, plenty of us know how to do this simple procedure.

Soldered memory cuts down on failures (fewer sockets/contact pins to fail due to corrosion, mechanical vibration/fatigue, etc), cuts down on cost (less parts), assembly time (mainboard gets baked once either way), makes it lighter, thinner, and consume less power (it takes power to push electrons through longer circuit traces, and especially LPDDRx uses simplified electronics due to the shorter traces).

i prefer having upgradeability at least on one ram slot. many people don't know what they are buying so they buy a notebook shaped object and find out later; toooo late.

What's next, you want to be able to upgrade components within the SoC? You gonna go roll your own silicon?

I love tinkering with my computers, but you've gotta realize what you're suggesting really isn't a practical thing. At best it's a hobby.
LOL, it is a very simple and practical thing.

do you change fluids and filters on your car? or do you just buy a new car every year?

come on people, this is Basics.

You are seriously equating changing fluids on a car to changing the RAM in a PC?

I can see this is a lost cause...

you obviously don't work on computers much; ram is a basic and should be easily changed. if Ram goes south, how are you going to repair it?

soldered in ram is too dificult for me to repair, the click in type changes in seconds.

no changing fluids in a car is an example, you can change other things if you are bunched up outside your thought box.

you can change hard drives, cpu, wifi, graphics, batteries. there are ship loads of stuff to upgrade and repair.

are you the type that throws everything away? if so, the environment and your pocket book thanks you.
