Now, my question: is this better than the recent YMMV M2 fake pro deal for $800?

I saw the M2 MBP w/touchbar priced $799.97 in my store at Sandy, Utah. 256GB ssd and 8MB RAM. Was wondering if a good deal to share here. Looks like some clearance prices but "B & M" only.

Yes, good find. I'm surprised there are still M1s left, since the M2 is the current model and the M3 is slated to be released during the first half of the year.

Great machine for $750 with the right expectations. Perfect for web browsing and email on the couch and out and about. If you plan on doing any type of work (school or professional) that requires lots of referencing back and forth between different screens then you may find the 13 inch screen way too small to be productive.

They're only keeping the "old" Pro to keep the touchbar fans happy (which is not a bad thing; more choice is good). If you just need a Mac then you can't go wrong with this

Is it that small? I got the 15" M2 MacAir still in packaging bought at $1049 debating which one to keep. Or buy the M2 MB Pro faker.

Yes. I tried this same 13" m1 mba model a few months ago and loved it but I was just so darn unproductive and started getting eye strain. Personally I always felt like I was just seeing a portion of the page through a telescope, never getting the full view of things, lots of scrolling around. And you can forget about having 2 windows side by side for most use cases. I returned it a few weeks later for a 16" mbp and LOVE it. I could never go back down to the smaller screen unless I was treating it like an iPad or iPhone, something just for light use. I lounge around on the couch all the time with the 16" and get so much work done now. I came from windows and used to only be able to get work done at a desk, now I get work done in bed on the couch anywhere.

You cant do anything more with one than the other. One is not going to instantly make you an astronaut. They are similarly specced machines. A single generation iteration chip advancement. I would probably go with the next gen chip but it's not like i will suddenly be solving cancer with it. Whereas if i bought the older one i wouldn't become a shameful idiot. Apple loves their marketing and i guess the public does too but it's one gen difference. You can still troll your favorite social media site and upload pictures of animals.

Thanks for the input. As I understand it the only other difference aside than the improvements on the old chip is how the ssd/ram is accessed? About it being separate in the newer version making it a tad slower or something?

This is no longer a deal, this is a 2020 air. 4 years old. 2 generations old. Stop posting this deal in 2024. A slick deal for this would be ~$500
