Few things to note about these:

They don't require the laptop have DP alt mode on the USB-C connector, which can be a plus, but this means the displays are using DisplayLink which is an abstraction layer built up on USB, and uses the CPU and GPU to render these displays in software. Which if your system is decently powerful and has a dedicated GPU, isn't really a huge issue, but if it has only CPU integrated graphics, DisplayLink performance can be quire terrible under certain conditions, like doing anything that's tasking the GPU with even something as "simple" as YouTube playback, and gaming is out of the question.

They're generally fine for most office uses, but gaming is not going to be a fun experience and if you have no dedicated GPU, even watching videos can lead to the display becoming a stuttering mess.

DisplayLink is useful, but it's not a replacement for a true display connection, like docks that connect over DisplayPort alt mode. But if your laptop doesn't have DP Alt Mode, this is the only way you're going to get a docking station, so it does have some uses.

If you have WalMart GC to burn, they have it also for $20, the seller being HP

Just a heads up, this is a displaylink dock.

Probably fine for most users and office use. Just be aware it will require additional drivers to output video to an external monitor, and you will not be able to drive dedicated GPU graphics to an external monitor with this dock if that is something you need.

I bought 2 of these the last time this was on sale ($50 each). I use one of them for my M1 macbook air to use two external monitors. While the displaylink experience isn't the smoothest, it does work.

What's the purpose of Ethernet built-in?
A lot of laptops don't have ehternet ports anymore and also so you don't have to plug in cable each time you doc to be hardwired

Was going to buy one to use with the steam deck but it sounds like it has issues with it per reddit - if anyone knows otherwise, let me know.

It looks like it connects to your computer via usb type A. Does anyone know of a good femal type A to male type C adapter that would work for this? thanks

Sorry my mistake, the cable included is C to C with a C to A adapter. Thank you to B&H Photos website for the images.

Don't believe that original listed price, and this review might be the reason why it's being clearanced:

Review on Amazon: Targus docking causes power surges strong enough to blow out a laptop https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/revi...uage=en-US
Bad units happen - unless there's a pattern of similar complaints, I'd just keep it in mind in case of problems. A single complaint (or very small percentage thereof) wouldn't keep me from buying it. You should always have backups of your data, anyway - this could happen with other devices, too.

Is this what I need if I want to connect my work laptop to my home desktop to use my monitors, keyboard and mouse?
no you need a KVM. But they can get quite pricey particularly since you are trying to do laptop with desktop and assuming you said MONITORs meaning you have TWO.

If you are ok with a TWO cable solution and only ONE monitor then you can get a USB switch for the mouse/keyboard and then an 2x1 HDMI switch for ONE monitor.

Dual monitor kvm solutions can get pricey especially if you are trying to do only ONE cable going from the laptop to two monitors.

Its tempting for $20 but I read a sperate review on AMZN that said it fried their motherboard. That I dont need. Pennywise pound foolish. Also it says TB3 compatible, but what does that really mean? Connect TB3 cable and it will work with the TB3 port?
