Few things to note about these:

They don't require the laptop have DP alt mode on the USB-C connector, which can be a plus, but this means the displays are using DisplayLink which is an abstraction layer built up on USB, and uses the CPU and GPU to render these displays in software. Which if your system is decently powerful and has a dedicated GPU, isn't really a huge issue, but if it has only CPU integrated graphics, DisplayLink performance can be quire terrible under certain conditions, like doing anything that's tasking the GPU with even something as "simple" as YouTube playback, and gaming is out of the question.

They're generally fine for most office uses, but gaming is not going to be a fun experience and if you have no dedicated GPU, even watching videos can lead to the display becoming a stuttering mess.

DisplayLink is useful, but it's not a replacement for a true display connection, like docks that connect over DisplayPort alt mode. But if your laptop doesn't have DP Alt Mode, this is the only way you're going to get a docking station, so it does have some uses.

Just a heads up, this is a displaylink dock.

Probably fine for most users and office use. Just be aware it will require additional drivers to output video to an external monitor, and you will not be able to drive dedicated GPU graphics to an external monitor with this dock if that is something you need.

By any chance has anyone personally used this dock with a KVM? Any of the common problems like with other cheap docks? (i.e. lower resolution when PC wakes up from hibernation, no keyboard response until windows loads, etc)

The reviews at HP indicate this is DisplayLink, so you will need a driver to use the display, and it won't work with Steam Deck. While it can work on Macs with the driver, this is a dealbreaker for me.

I hear you and agree with you on this but guess what, my work laptop was plugged into a brand new official Lenovo dock (costing probably around $300 or more) last week and it fried the mobo.

Dispatch Tech came to replace to mobo and he showed us the USB port literally black lol

I mean bad stuff happens all the time even with the highest rated products .. unless, of course, it is like a super cheap knockoff, unheard of docking station brand but Targus I guess more known that what you see in Amazon.

Anyway, I bought one because I have a laptop that I need a dock but really don't care if it gets fried.

Again not everyone has the same luxury to burn a laptop but I would certainly not buy this for a more expensive laptop I personally own.

Do not buy from HP. They will make you run pillar to post if you need to return. The product didn't work for me. I don't know if it was defective or incompatible with Mac. they gave me a hard time about returning. product and hp both bad.
