I'm very happy with mine. I usually use it w 120 or 150 grit and for spot sanding or breaking the edges on something quick. I'm way more likely to do so since cordless is almost as easy as grabbing a hammer. I have corded sanders for continuous sanding.

Honestly... you are the 1st person twice ever heard that likes this! Even people at Bosch don't like the 12v lol. They've 💩 on it in replies on their Instagram several times.

The 20v is a great sander for the money, and the 12v lineup is fantastic.... however, the 12v sander... not so much.

Love this tool. I have 2. Most people who complain try to use this sander for heavy removal. Treat it like a finishing sander; I use it on my 180/220 grits and it's great. If you expect Mirka level sanding you'll be disappointed, but for what it is.. worth it!

It's true that seems to be the online consensus, and it took me awhile using both to come to my own opinion.

I own both and tbh, I don't find the 18/20v version much more capable for how I use it. It pushes a few more watts which lets you bear down more, but that's not really best sanding practice. When you do that, you can drain a 4.0ah 20v battery in 5-10 minutes.

I have used the 18/20v for a few bookshelf projects from start to finish, and it did manage pretty well, but I cycled 4ah batteries A LOT. 4 batteries and two of the newer chargers could not keep up w a continuous workflow. IMO runtime and speed are still not at all up there vs corded (I have 3 festool sanders) and so for me, these Bosch are essentially really high-quality spot sanders. And I slightly prefer the balance of the 12v.

The dna of what is good is exactly the same on both units. Good counterweighting for low vibration. Good airflow for decent dust collection.

I usually run the 18v paired with a dust extractor at home. I run the 12v w the filter bag at work or in the field.

And when I say in the field, a couple weeks ago, I was sanding the sharp edges off a dozen plywood crates in the back of a truck. I was able to do the whole set with a 2.0ah 12v battery. For anyone unhappy w material removal, I suggest drastically improved results come with choosing the right grit, using an even technique, and probably cleaning or changing the paper more frequently.

I wish this came in a corded version. Bosch makes some great sanders for the money. I just really don't like cordless sanders. If I want a detail sander I'll use the Milwaukee M12 detail sander.

I guess I'm in the minority. I have a ton of Bosch 12v tools and love them. I also have an 18v hitachi set I use for heavier projects, but I love the lightness and portability of the 12 drill. I also have this sander, saw, impact, and 2 heated jackets. I really like them and find I reach for them before the 18v stuff.

Yeah, incompleteperfect has trashed Bosch 12V tools here and there, but never specifies anything that's actually wrong with them. I've asked, because I'm a huge fan of their 12V tools, and have this and the detail sander, brushless impact driver and drill, recip saw, mini grinder, multi-tool, and I think others. My lone complaint about them is how slowly and rarely they release new tools.

Got this for $69 back in November, and it's been great. Besides other stuff mentioned, I've found that the light weigh makes it possible to use a much lighter touch than my corded sanders.

For those interested, the detail/sheet combo sander is also on sale ($99, down from $139): https://slickdeals.net/f/17268022-99-00-bosch-gss12v-40n-12v-max-brushless-sheet-orbital-finishing-sander-bare-tool?src=SiteSearchV2Algo
