I think you hit the nail on the head here - it's a "system" we're talking about, and it's only as good as it's weakest link. No amount of DSP can overcome poor equipment choices.
Exactly. I used to work with a guy who was car nut and he used to point out all of the people who used to put spoilers or loud tail pipes on their 2008 Scion and try to pretend it's a highend sports car. Nah, it's still just a hatchback.

Ah, yes. Ye olde "how much hp does it add?" for economy cars. Spoiler=more aerodynamic! Louder=faster! Big Grin

Do you really believe that all you have to do is press the Audyssey auto setup button and everything sounds great? Audyssey or any other room correction software is not that smart no matter how much we try to make it. If you don't know what Room Eq Wizard is, you're nothing but a "set it and forget it" end user who thinks that all they have to do is follow the on-screen directions to get the best sound possible, when in fact, nothing could be further from the truth. I've never ran a room correction software that nails it 100% after running it. Room Eq Wizard will let you manually set your levels, distance, and allow you to EQ the sub perfectly while adding room curves to dial in the bass just right. If you learn how to use room eq wizard, you can get great sound in your room instead of "rolling the digital dice" and letting Audyssey or Dirac guess what you like.

Regardless of pushing a button in order to PROPERLY calibrate an audio system to a room you absolutely DO require a reference mic, processing ability for it, and software to process the results even to manually set proper values such as in a massive permanently installed concert system - every single part of the system requires calibration to the other parts, and while there is no magic button there is no "play it by ear". Without the full analysis toolchain you can't accurately set the correct settings, you are simply guessing...

I dunno, sounds about the same to me already as a movie theater with a 20 year old receiver and 4.1 sound lol. I'm not an audiophile just want my tv remote to co trol the receiver.
Did you take your metamucil today?

I was just in the same boat. Any receiver with "ARC" (audio return channel) should let you do that and will transfer audio over the HDMI cable. I think that is found in receivers starting ~2013 if you want to pick up one on shopgoodwill or something.
I am on that site a lot and they NEVER have remotes. Also, you're look at $50+ for shipping.

You can find remotes for most devices on ebay for a few additional bucks.

So what it comes down to in terms of value is sort of like buying Organic versus non-organic. One of the big things with organic is more flavor, and a fuller flavor profile, and after the meal you feel less "exhausted" if you overeat etc.
No. πŸ’©

There's not a whiff of truth in this bullshit.

This may come as a surprise to you, but Audyssey is simply guessing. You really trust that ALL the settings made by Audyssey are 100% correct and need no further adjustments? Good luck with that. Please don't get me wrong,Audyssey and Dirac are useful tools, but further adjustments may be needed after calibration. Neither are they absolutely essential to get the best quality sound, which as we all know is subjective from person to person.

I bought this receiver and so far so good.
However, I'm not sure why they say it works with ok google as I can't add it into Google home to control it. Did anyone figure out how to?

The only thing I found is it has chromecast support and i can use ok google to try to cast to the receiver.
I searched old articles and it seems it was working with google home before but not after google updated google home to new UI.

I got this one a few months ago at this price ($299) and I am using it in a small living room of a small apartment. Added this receiver to a ProCinema 6D Surround Sound Sytem and I love it. Again, my use case is for movies to a not too loud volume but I am happy.
