What is this for???
Google says: "What is anise extract good for?
Anise contains chemicals that might have estrogen-like effects, decrease swelling, and help fight off insects. People use anise for indigestion, constipation, migraine, menopausal symptoms, and many other purposes, but there is no good scientific evidence to support these uses. Don't confuse anise with star anise."

I'm confused by this line in your post since the product picture clearly shows star anise. What am I missing?
ETA - I'm no longer confused, they are different things but your post is about anise and this appears to be star anise at least from the picture on the label.
Q: Is this made from anise seed (pimpinella anisum)? package picture shows star anise, which is a different flavor.
Answer this question
A: It is made from Star Anise the seed pod from the fruit of the Illicium verum plant.

Google is apparently for hypochondriacs Anise extract is used for licorice flavor, which turns out tastier than it sounds in some cookies
Will pass..A few reviews highlight that it smells strong of alcohol:
"I've used anise extract before in baking cookies and always follow the recipe. I could tell as soon as I opened the bottle that there's too much alcohol in this extract. Used it for cookies and frosting and the frosting in particular turned out gross. I won't buy this brand again."
"The smell and flavor is predominately alcohol and not anise. I used just a few drops in a recipe and it was inedible. Very disappointed as this seller doesn't accept returns."
"Did not have a good anise taste
Too much alcohol
Very poor product"
