I returned mine in 2022. It worked on its own maybe 50% of the time. The other times, I had to unplug and plug the dongle back in again to get it to connect to my phone, or I had to reboot my phone. Numerous times, the connection would drop mid-drive, leaving me without navigation until I pulled over and plugged my phone into the car. Also, when it did work, the constant wireless connection caused my phone's battery to drain very quickly, which meant that I had to plug my phone into a USB port anyway. In the end, it was definitely not worth the hassle and came nowhere near a seamless wireless experience.
I have been using it for a year now. It's been working fine most of the time. Occasionally I have to unplug and replug the unit to get it to work, even less often it'd disconnect and it's very annoying when it happened while I was driving.
I have been thinking about upgrading to a carlinkkit max which with is a build-in android device which apparently remove a lot of the AA restriction and basically makes the head unit an android tablet.

Which one you looking at? The one I see has about a 50% 5 star ratings and the other 50% complained of issues.
works decently enough that I don't think the few issues from time to time bother me, probably connection issue 1 of 20, and can be handled by a simple unplug and plug. Can't beat the convenience of both AA/CP and only for about $40 when on sale.

Will this allow me to run any app on my cars head unit? If so this is the exact product I've always wanted.
Works well most of the time. There are a couple parts of my town where it always drops connection (like around high power lines?). It's basically in the same location every time. I drive past that spot and android auto reconnects. It does stop my podcast I'm listening to though and then I have to reopen the phone and figure out where I was in the podcast. Annoying when it happens but 90% of the time it works fine.
Does your head unit shut down when you shut the truck down? This causes the MA1 to disconnect when you get out.
I'm asking because in my Kia Niro, the head unit would continue to provide power to the USB port, and this thing would be connected to the phone when I went into the house. It would never stop Android Auto.

Using Carlinkit 5.0 for a few months now. Worked fine (90-95%) of the time connecting to AA or CP within 10-15 seconds. At times it take like half a min or more to connect.
Only issue I found is that at times, it prefer to connect to the iPhone inside the house than the Android inside the car. Haven't figured out how to prioritize AA or CP if we have both devices in the car.
Finding one for a good price is Amazon is difficult. I got mine from Lightinthebox[lightinthebox.com]for $40 shipped within a week or 10 days. Found a coupon code from a old slickdeals thread (coupon still worked)

twice I had to "reboot" it, this was in a Ford.
may have to get one of the carplay options as I miss the wireless connection.
