Is the warranty service reliable? Will the laptop explode on the 366th (or 367th) day?

The base 14" m3 pro model goes for $1850 (better processor, 2gb more ram, etc). While the M1 laptop costed $2K new, I'm going to compare it to the price of a new base m3 pro 14". So, imo this is $650 off sticker price for a 2+ year old m1 refurb when compared to the new 14" m3 pro.

You can buy a new version of this laptop from 3rd party websites for $1300-$1400. So, I'd say that $1100-$1200 is around the currently value of a refurb. This offer isn't really a "deal". It's just the present value.

thanks for the analysis! that puts it into perspective for me. previously, i was eyeing the M1 for the best "value", but it looks like the M3 might be the best bang for the buck if we can get a good price. you think the 18GB/512GB M3 Pro will drop to a reasonable price anytime soon? what price point do you think it'll be worth the bang?

If you qualify for the Apple education program, you'll get a sizable discount for everything on Apple. That's where the $1850 figure comes from [apple.com]. It's been going on for as long as I can remember. I think it's applicable to pretty much all Macs and iPads. It's also applicable to Apple's refurbished products.

If you don't qualify for that, Costco typically has $50-$150 off promotions several times a year for the latest Macs when other competitors don't. B&H also runs some good promos pretty frequently for new Macs. I'd check them out periodically.

You'll probably have to wait for the M4 MacBooks to come out to start seeing better deals on the M3/M3 pro 14" MacBook Pro.
