Yeah the gold card was left in the dust insofar as any real perks. you do get bonus miles on certain purchases and the free bag but that's it.

As for me, I'm not eligible for any of the card welcome bonuses because I've had the gold card.
A lot of data points online actually suggest that "lifetime" for Amex is 7 years. Also on occasion (not this promo) they do no lifetime language offers with reduced bonuses.

The Amex Delta cards are having their annual fees increase, effective immediately, along with "better" perks. Buyer beware!

As well, there are data points which show that a "lifetime" is approximately 7 years, so you can get bonuses again at some point, as long as you've maintained a decent relationship with Amex.
Fortunately Amex shows a pop-up (aka pop-up jail) when you go to submit an application, which will warn you if you do not qualify for the SUB.
With the 15% discount on award redemptions you get by having this card, and SkyMiles generally valued at 1.2cpp, the value of this offer is ~$966 in flights. If you are patient and wait for a special redemption (i.e. you keep an eye on places where deals are posted like the awardtravel subreddit), you could get a decent amount higher value.
