Should I spend the extra $100 and get this over the sealed Yoga 7i that has a 1335u? I do want good battery life, so the 3050 might throw that off.

Just disable it in the bios! I have the 7840 version, it honestly I love the soft top even with a 3050 enabled. Quiet in a better life is pretty awesome.

Great laptop, I also got an open box just after Thanksgiving. So far I don't have any complain as I was looking to downsizing from Macbook M1 16" and were able to travel and play some games on the go. The difference compared to my ex XPS 15" 2020 is that this AMD processor runs way better in thermals than that Intel version. Also speakers with Dolby Access and Boom 3D were significantly improved, not at the level of the Macbook, but really good for a Windows computer.

So much for the slim 3.5lbs.
Should get Carbon X1 for weight and portability.

Comparing apples to oranges, even if similarly spec'd. This one weighs ~3.5lbs vs the HP you linked at ~5lbs.

If you want to consider 15.6" 5lbs laptops, you should compare it to other large laptops with similar specs. You may have a better idea how to gauge what is a good deal doing that.

How does this compare to that Costco HP Pavilion deal from a few weeks ago? I copped that and haven't had a ton of time to test, but I'm a bit underwhelmed with the 780m iGPU performance.

Looks like this one has a slightly worse display: 1600p vs 1800p, 90hz vs 120hz, OLED vs IPS. RAM is the same. Smaller SSD here but I have a spare 1TB i could throw in. CPU seems like it's a wash pretty much.

Gaming was not supposed to be the focus for this laptop, as I have a capable desktop. But from my testing it seems like AAA games are going to be a no-go with the 780m with only 25W, which seems to be the highest the HP will deliver consistently. 780m seems to be enough for Switch/Wii U/PS3 emulation, which is going to be the focus. Anyway, worth it to swap these?

I missed costco fire sale of $599 on the HP OLED, then I went to best buy and bought open box Slim 7 pro 16/1.0 with R7, 3K display IPS for $728+tax . The laptop is very thin light but the colors especially WHITE looks like light TAN color. Brightness of 400 knits is so so

I grabbed one "Open Box excellent" condition from BestBuy when it was $445+tax for a very short period of time. Received it in time and the condition was really excellent. Have warranty till Nov 24. Upgraded the SSD to 2TB and so far no issue at all. I used it for mapping software (ArcGIS) and occasional gaming (Dota). The 3050 is great for my tasks. The thermal is actually very good and you can barely hear the sound of the fan even when its on performance mode. The battery life is also met expectation considering my use cases. Its not exceptional but pretty decent (7/8 hours) when you use for browsing and other simple tasks. I usually game with power connection but also tried with battery and got a little over an hour. Overall very happy with the purchase so far.
