1st of all thank you OP for taking the time to post the deal.

I don't understand why Zigbee is still around when most devices that have value Locks, Cameras etc have Wifi Chips in them.

Would love to know why. Maybe I am missing a screw or a bolt Wink

Not OP, but zigbee uses less power and is more reliable than WiFi. Also, it keeps devices off your WiFi.

If I add 50 Philips hue lights at home, they use zigbee and create a mesh network. This is one reason they're very reliable.

If I add 50 lights that are WiFi only, they're going to add congestion to my network and use my bandwidth. Zigbee can add some congestion, but not anywhere near the same as a WiFi device.
Controlling all those WiFi lights at once will probably end with a few lights not responding.

"Thread" is the new standard, but there are still quite a few issues being worked out with it.

Aqara M3 was shared at CES this year and will be coming out in Q2 of this year - it will have matter and thread support. Sharing in case you want to hold off until the next gen comes out to get an updated hub or maybe a better price on prior gen
