Had to sort through the reviews to find the ones for this swivel set. Bad design it seems. The sleeve holding the swivel pin is aluminum. It breaks easily under stress. I'll pass on this one.

For the average DIYer not much. Being a mechanic, that extra 1/2" to 1" savings in length can be the difference between getting a bolt out in a minute vs two hours in a tight spot.

What's the advantage of this VS buying a swivel [amazon.com] adapter and just use sockets you already have

My outlook here is that you will likely need the deep sockets more often in an engine bay, for something like studs. Just my .02 from working on Ford Modular motors.

Most mechanics would have both. lol But if you're only picking one, I'd choose the deep well, every single time.

You need a impact "wrench" and the size of your lugnut to know if the socket is indeed included in this set. Impact drivers and drills are mostly used for light duty work. You can use them for some automotive jobs but for heavy duty jobs like a car's suspension, I would go for a 1/2" impact wrench. 3/8" can do most jobs but I prefer 1/2" for removing lugnuts.

One tip though, in my opinion, you should only use impact drivers and impact wrenches to remove things (especially if its made of aluminum) because you run the risk of stripping the threads if you overtighten. For lugnuts, it should be ok but you may want to find out how much torque (ft. lbs.) is required to tighten them all the way per manufacturer's specifications.

An impact drill/driver most likely won't provide enough torque to remove lug bolts or nuts. You'd need an impact wrench, which is much more powerful and should already be able to accept 3/8" or 1/2" sockets, rather than needing an adapter like a 1/4" hex impact driver would.

Other than that, this set does include most of the common metric sizes, but some older and heavy duty vehicles might need something else, so it depends on what size you need. And the swivel feature of these would be completely unnecessary for removing lug nuts - regular, straight deep impact sockets would work just as well, and be cheaper.

If you can provide even a little muscle, I'd suggest looking for a purpose-built lug wrench set, which would be sold specifically for your purpose.

Thanks for the heads up regarding the aluminum sleeve as I was about to pull the trigger on these.

Gearwrench is great, but if you don't specifically need deeps this Astro Pneumatic pinless set is pro quality and a superior design.
