Costco Members: Costco/Tires: Set of 4 Bridgestone Tires w/ Free Installation Expired

Discount Tire matches not only the tire price but the free installation as well, at least they have for me the past two sets of tires I've purchased. They looked at the out the door price from Costco and adjusted their price accordingly.

dumb question. do yall replace your tires only when you get a flat? ive been riding on my 10-11 year old tires(3 out of 4 tires, the 4th tire i got a couple years ago since i had a flat and a patch couldnt fix it). the tire are original from when i bought the car from the dealer & i dont drive that much, the car only has 50k miles

I bought an old 2005 Ford Focus to have as a second car, and also because my teenagers have got their learners permits now. This car was sold by the family of an elderly woman who was too old to drive; the car only has 65k miles on it!

I've been driving the vehicle for months on the highway and at high speeds. I looked at the tires and the tread is great, but the sidewalls are dry and crackly. I looked at the date codes on the sidewall, and found that the tires are about 8 yrs old.

All the online sources recommend replacing tires that are 6+ yrs old regardless of mileage. Now I know they have a vested interest in selling tires, but in my case seeing the dried out and crackling sidewalls made me think twice about driving this vehicle at high speeds. Especially since my kids are starting to drive now.

I decided to get all four replaced at Walmart for like $350 total. Yeah they're not Michelins or Bridgestones, but they're new.

Looking for 265/35R20 and noticed that Tire Rack is consistently $100 less per tire than Costco or Discount Tire.
Costco has 'free' installation and DT charges extra, but includes rotation and balancing for the life of the tire.
Seems that the best deal would be to get DT to match TR while getting 'lifetime" rotation/balancing

And it's a hell of a lot easier to get service at Discount Tires. They'll get you out of there in about 20 mins if you make an appt for a rotation.

As of around 5 years ago, Discount tire around me offered tire rotations for free for "public safety" when I called and asked how much a tire rotation was. Not sure if that is still the case.

what brand of tires were they? I started doing research on Walmart tires, comes to be about $400 total plus install which is another $100+.
Debating Costco which is $900 with installation vs around $500 with no name Walmart tires

Not sure why people go out of their way to price match and have all the extras thrown in with haggling when you can just go to Costco and it's there already.

I don't understand the appeal of Discount Tire when you have to go to them and ask to match everything Costco does already, to then spend time waiting doing nothing at a tire store, when you could be at Costco the entire time shopping while getting service, and you aren't driving out of the way to a Discount Tire to then drive to Costco where you were going to go anyway for shopping.

The beautiful aspect of Costco that no one seems to mention is how they will never use old tires. These other tire shops literally purchase from wholesale tire warehouse networks where the tires are just sitting on a shelf until someone calls. You have absolutely no idea when these tires were manufactured until you check the date after the shop installs for you.

I got new Michelins from Costco a little over a year ago and they were literally manufactured 3 weeks prior. The exact same month. Made in early November, installed late November. You can't even buy a new car with newer tires than that.

I've purchased tires from dealers and read Discount Tire stories of people getting tires already 3 years old. That doesn't happen at Costco, whereas it's rather the norm in many other places.

Regardless of tread depth, tire integrity drops off at 6 years and it's recommended you replace, even by Discount Tires' standards. So I guess if you don't care you could be halfway there before driving off the lot, go ahead.

I've looked at battery and tire dates at my Costco and everything is 1-2 months old. A lot of these tires and batteries you get elsewhere are many months/years old. No thanks!!

Not sure why extra long post explaining all of that when I merely relayed a completely unrelated comment about Discount tire offering to rotate my tires that I did not purchase from them for free.

I was merely stating that they told me it is a service they offer, all the time, to everyone whether or not they had purchased their tires from Discount tire.

That said, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to determine that not everyone has a Costco membership or wants to go to Costco if another company will meet/beat their price. Also, I've purchased tires from Costco, but not Discount tire to this point in my life. I'm just sharing the information that it would be worth calling a local Discount tire if someone needed tires rotated and did not need new tires, and did not previously purchase their tires from a place that offered free tire rotation for the life of the tires.

I can say over the course of my driving life (24 years and over 10 cars) I've not had many tires fail me due to old age. 2 to be exact, and they were free tires to me. Hopefully you enjoyed my long winded story as well!

Michelin CC2 is the best

The one thing DT doesn't match is the road hazard warranty from Costco. DT requires you to buy the certificates for the road hazard warranty, which usually work out to the cost of buying an additional tire when you buy the certs for 4 tires.
