In my opinion, this is slightly superior but TUF A16 does have some advantafes:
Omen 16 over TUF:

Efficient Processor with slightly better performance but lower power consumption and better thermals.
High speed DDR5 5600 vs DDR4 3200 on TUF
Brighter 300 nits (actually goes near 350-nits as per reviews) vs 250-nits in TUF
Arguably slightly better asthetics and non-gamery look.
Most powerful integrated GPU 780M @ 2800 MHz which can enable you to disable the discreate Graphics card and still enjoy good enough Graphics performance and extending the battery life, if required.
better 1080p webcam vs 720p on TUF

TUF over Omen 16:

Has Thunderbolt 4 vs just USB 3.2 Gen 2 on Omen, enabling it to connect external GPU dock and other TB accessories.
Slightly cheaper.

I posted this twice when it was $100 more, so this definitely is a pretty good deal.
A few things I would like to mention is that the OP is wrong about the brightness on the TUF in his first comment, it's not 250-nits but 300-nits and 100% sRGB display. I've only read about Omens with QHD displays going above the advertised 300-nits to 350-370, but not sure about the FHD models, I could be wrong.

Also, real-life difference between DDR4 and DDR5 is negligible or not significant enough. It's a well-known fact now and OP himself has mentioned this on quite a few threads in the past. But yes, it's good to have something recent and more future proof.

The TUF also has a bigger battery, but the battery runtimes would probably be the same as Ryzen processor in the Omen here is more power efficient. The former is also almost a pound lighter making it more portable.

This is a good deal, no doubt but you can get the same things done from the TUF as well for $100 cheaper. But if spending that money is no problem then this Omen is a no-brainer.

Thermals are normal, nothing extremely good or bad, similar to same price range laptop. But more imprtottantly, the cooling is adequate to provide full performance for both the CPU and the GPU (100W for all nvidia Cards below RTX 4080, despite their highlighted higher TGP).

Another thing I forgot to mention in the previous post, the HP's display is significantly superior compared to TUF in gaming performance due to higher refresh rate (165 Hz vs 144 Hz) and far better response time. The 1080p 144Hz display in TUF has very slow pixel response.

You can check the below review of Omen 16 with exact same hardware and 7840HS. 7840HS offers similar thermals and performance (Slightly better single core with 7940HS) but overall very similar thermal performance.
https://www.notebookcheck.net/HP-...780.0.html

Now regarding build quality wise, both are budget laptops but I think TUF is a bit rigid among these two but mostly plastic. On the other hand, HP is using metal casing with Black Plastic cover. So, it may look plasticky but the whole chassis internally is made of metal and due to that has far better stability than the previous Omen models. This is true for both 2023 Intel and AMD models.

Thank you Suryasis, that is very helpful.
What about comparing the build quality and thermals while gaming? Assume I'm going to use it on the desk with separate keyboard, mouse, and monitor, so those aspects don't matter as much.

Do not buy from best buy via eBay. If the laptop has an issue and needs to be exchanged, they will not honor it. They will refund, however. I bought this last time around and it was a nightmare. I ended up going with eluktronics, which had similar specs. So far, I'm very happy.

Build quality/material is definitely superior in omen. For those who care about this aspect like me.

I linked the Notebookcheck.net review with same 1080p panel and it was going average of 351 nits and maximum over 370 nits. Check that out. And the response time is very fast 7ms (As measured by Notebookcheck) compared to 20ms + on TUF. You can check Jarrod's Tech review on that.

Costco has the HP Omen with Intel Core i7-13700HX, 32 GB DDR5 RAM, a 17.3" display, and 1 TB SSD for just $200 more. Costco doubles the manufacturer's warranty also. I'd go with that.
