My Frigidaire looks exactly like this. Probably the same manufacturer. FYI this does not keep the ice frozen. The ice melts to the bottom of the machine then it uses it again to make ice. Non issue for events but I wouldn't recommend as a continuous use allowance.

Bag of ice is dirty if you plan to put them in drinks.

Any models that are less prone to mold?
I would just add a couple of drops of bleach every time you make a batch of ice.

I dont think theres one for countertop ice machines. just need to make sure you clean them thoroughly.
Edit: i have a different model now but have used a couple of these in the past. i have this now: https://www.costco.com/frigidaire...or%3ablack
both are prone to mold and have hard to reach spots to clean but the one from costco seem to require less cleaning intervals compared to the one on the post

Doubt it they all have the same basic design. I have seen some say on other threads that using distilled water will keep it from getting mold.

The one I had for four years did have a cleaning cycle, they recommended adding half and half ratio of water and vinegar and the cleaning cycle would flush the solution continuously through the system. You can even just do a food safe bleach solution (1 tablespoon bleach to 1 gallon of water) and run that through the cleaning cycle. I would do that then a run with clean water. There should be a drain pipe in the back to get all the water out as well.

Does it make clear ice? I only use clear ice in my mocktails.

My thoughts as well. So 3 jugs of Distilled H2O at WM is $4. 3 jugs at 8 pounds per gallon is 24 pounds or close to about what a 20 pund bag of pre maid ice is. Not a huge savings IF you are doing that distilled route. Some wont like the taste of home conditioned water either frozen untreated water in cubes. We Have the fridge ice maker outside of the conditioner treatment pipes for that reason. We got just a charcoal filter in front of the fridge line. Some can taste the differances., not to mention mold.

IDK, we are getting so spoiled that the issue comes up in the big scheam of life. I think what most are saying is performance and durability will varry. Like the old steam Iron, you need distilled water to insure prolonged use. A lot of the world would love to have the options.

If you want cubes, as I do, with out doing the plumbing, it looks like this and distilled water as the best option. This works best if you are a scotch on the rocks kind of guy. If you only need at best a 1l pitcher of Margaritas for the next hour or two that might work but I dont thonk these store 20+pounds of ice, but rather can make up to. The rest is up to you..

In my experience these types of ice makers are a pain to clean (need to regularly to prevent mold) and have about a two year life spam. Still for $50, this is solid price I would consider.
It's very easy to clean. You can use a towel with some soap, or a little bleach, baking soda, etc. just rinse thoroughly. I use distilled water and rarely have to clean it. I have this exact model for around 4 years. I've had to change the water tube as it got brittle and was leaking water. Easy fix if you search YouTube.. I highly recommend. I love the crunchiness of the ice.

can confirm, you cannot take it apart to clean the rear tray where the ice cubes form.

Do any of them? lol I never considered that I needed to find an ice maker that would keep ice cold. How long does it last for? Is the container even insulated?

Too simple, sometimes naive…

Lol bullshit. There's absolutely no chance this thing can get cold enough to freeze water in 6 minutes. Probably closer to an hour per batch of ice.

Snag one of the gift card deals first, then circle on back here. First, get a Best Buy card at Ralph's or something.... I also just saw a $15 Best Buy gift card if you buy $100 DoorDash card from Best Buy...

My $95 ice maker from Amazon crapped out after exactly 12.5 months... This is about the most I would invest in a second one. .
And word has it that tap water is not good for the longevity of these machines. It's best to use distilled water if you are able to.

It makes 8 small ice tubes (not cubes) every few minutes.

It's probably worth getting just for spare parts to fix the nearly-identical one I already have (if/when it breaks down).
