It will take a long while before the 4080 drops to $800, if it ever will. Look at the 3000 series still holding at or above MSRP. Retailers bought these 4080s in bulk around the $1200 MSRP (minus whatever-small volume discount), and they're not gonna lose that money, so they're hoping unsophisticated buyers will still buy them at whatever prices they're selling for now.

I've used both brands, and I've had more (though not many) issues with Nvidia drivers than AMD ones. But my AMD experience was only from recent years.

The trick is that you must do a full driver uninstall (e.g., with DDU) when switching brands, whichever way you switch.

For raytracing or ai, Nvidia is king but this is otherwise midway between 4070ti and 4080 in most use cases.

The only gpu (or pc hardware) company that ever had a regular trade up gpu program from my recollection and 30 yrs of gaming was Evga .~ There are a few after market sites Ive seen that do rentals/with option to purchase, upgrades if purchased from them originally , with optional trade ups to those purchases ; but imo most are rip-off's both in pricees in original purchace and pricing for trade in value and upgrades . . ~ Pricing on those type of sites are just plain out of line ...period!

Newegg has a GPU trade-in program, but you have to use it towards the purchase of a new GPU. And it's planning on refurbishing and reselling the GPUs that people trade in.

Jawa.gg also does GPU trade-ins, but they're less generous, and I don't know what the terms and conditions are. Jawa is like eBay but for computer stuff.

Well I will be surprised if the 4080 ever hits 800.00 because I thought they are discontinued now since the super basically is going to take its place . I've decided on the 4070 ti Super but would love to snag a 4080 for 800.00 . I really want to go Amd with the 7900xt or xtx but the driver issues that sometimes comes up scares me off. I'm also loving the dropping prices of the 7900s cards but I'm really looking to buy in August because of the back to school discounts. I still need a Psu, MB, Ram, CPU " will probably go Micro Center" , Monitor, keyboard, Mouse. The GPU seems to be the most stressful purchase because of the prices. When do you think the best time to get a GPU for the absolute best price.

Out of all 3 of the newer cards the 4070 super is the only one that showed a decent performance gain. The only reason to consider the 4070ti is the 4gb more of Vramm. To my knowledge and correct me if I am wrong the only game so far has been the Last of us that has actually needed the 16gb of Vramm. This post is for the 7900xt though so I will leave the whole Nvidia crazies alone. For sports or games that don't need frame gen or dlss or raytracing but just raw rasteration straight horsepower. This is a good solid deal. I have used a few amd cards but have found that the majority of the games I play or plan to heavily favor optimization through Nvidia. I wish I could just get a solid card and be comforted that I can max out my settings to my preferences and get the performance to value trade off that I honestly haven't seen since the days of the 1080. I ended up getting a 4070 non super because I managed to get one from a fellow gamer that wanted a beefier card and I offered $400.00 for it so I decide not to get a 4070ti or an amd 7900xt. I can report that whether I platy on a 4k 120hz tv or a 40 inch 3440x1440p ultrawide or a triple 27 2560x1440 x3 I have a positive experience.

I tested 4070ti and 3070 recently and no different from Radeon unless you screw around with settings too often to make unstable

UV and OC are really different so i get most of my crashes there; OC on nvidia is much easier but there are some rules to amd for some generational differences like minimum frequency being 500mhz less to reduce crashing and power draw; so less up front cost but more cost of ownership with how the TBP is and quirkyness of multi monitor with different hz but single monitor users won't experience that idle issue as much

4070tiS was just a sad disappointment and no noticeable improvement to frames from my tested 4070ti; which i believe that will be the biggest value after people hold for a while and all of nvidia confidence in the super event is over; 12gb seems valid still and blown out proportion and people will be on 12gb for years to come with how 4070S is probably just more approachable overall in many builds overall with it being same TDP as 3070

I can attest, from personal experience, that AMD driver issues have been a thing of the past for years now. In fact, AMD's Radeon software is more polished and robust than Nvidia's equivalent.

The only reasons to pick Nvidia over AMD would be ray tracing, DLSS vs FSR, video encoding (depending on model), and/or the lower power usage.

Me too. I used to only buy Nvidia cards due to my fear of AMD driver issues but after buying a 6800 XT and havent run into a SINGLE driver issue since 1 year ago when i bought it, im fully converted. My RTX 3070 ran into more issues.
