Sand paper shape is just about where the sander can reach and price. 1/4 and 1/3 size can be cut from full sheets, but circle ones are bought individually. Sheets can reach inside corners better, but I believe circular pads last longer because they wear more evenly.
I do both furniture and cabinets usually, but this is one of 4 sander categories I like to have around. The others being a belt sander, 6" orbital, 5" orbital, and this one.
