currently one can easily negotiate as we all know the auto market is crashing due to both dealer and manufacturer greed pricing.
msrp is now 10% too high. and can actually be negotiated 20% lower than msrp with all concessions if you do things right.
go for cash back and 0% financing if you want.
5% below MSRP is standard for new normally back before covid.
when they get desperate 10-15% is reasonable and 20%+ would be your target ideally.
Ford and GM are going to need another bailout even though stock market at all time high due to ai bubble pumping we as slickdealers old ones all know this the new slickdealer fakes are newbies that know nothing and just came here because HF bought the forum for their own p n d agendas.
So we need some datapoints as costco already offer a car buying service that automatically helps get you a 5-10% discount.
gotta beat 10% for this to be worth it.
The Toyota Rav4 and Honda CR-V have crazy MSRPs, and due to BS demand, they are not bulging. You can get much better value for Hyundai and Mazda (so far, Mazda is the best). I negotiated a really good deal; they lowered the price, plus they are giving 0% APR on certain trims. I left it by giving them an impossible offer because they kept lowering the price to meet my price, but I had to explore a few others, so I didn't purchase, but these days, they have too much inventory and are ready to lower the price plus if you get 0% then, that makes an outstanding deal.
After exploring I am going back to re-negotiate the deal with Mazda.

You could probably haggle lower, especially on something like a CX-5 where most dealers have a bunch in stock. CX-90 and CX-50 are much more supply constricted so you may not end up much better after haggling.
I ended up getting a cx5 preferred for 2400 off msrp and got the premium plus down 2250 plus a few oil changes.
