What's a use case for this? Do some generators not have the 5-20r receptacles built in?

Mine does. But those and the L5-30P outlet are on separate rails or something in the generator. Each have their own amperage limits. If I've got the Xmas tree, train set, santa, and rudolph all already plugged into the 5-20R outlets, this cable gives me some more capabilities.

Bought this cable for the same price a couple weeks ago. Took about 10 days to arrive, but the build quality is very solid. Obviously haven't used it yet, but I probably should.... before I need it.

A L5-30P is a 30 amp plug, so the connector you are plugging into should be fused for that, where 5-20R is 20 amps, so it mostly comes down to what you are pulling for power.

These cables are common on construction job sites, with generators and multiple power tools being used.

Also, most home generators only have 2 5-20R plugs, so this would give you 3 from a single cord, barring your generator has a L5-30P recepticle.
