The title says free, but you are clearly giving them all your sensitive data and id, in return for some tax prep software.

i did last year with CashApp as i was using CK prior to the transfer. Now this came up and i signed up. So.. should i stay with CashAPP or this Turbotax? i assume both will be free for me. Is there a catch here where they will start charging next year once they have me in their system?
Yes it's only free for a year to try to get you into their ecosystem.

Which one does a good job with 1095 Omabacare and for medical deductions? I've always paid someone to do taxes because of the medical deduction but maybe someone can comment on trying to file another way. Thanks

So to reiterate a couple of things in case folks are confused:
  • This is essentially a paid version of turbotax online, given out for free, with a different name
  • I don't know if its the deluxe or the premium version
  • You have to start the return before Feb 9th, dont have to finish it by then
  • If you used turbotax last year, you can still do this offer: Open up a new turbotax account. When you login to credit karma and it takes you to turbotax to login, use your new turbotax account instead of the old one that you used to file taxes last year.
  • it should have auto stock import
  • fed and 1 state should be free to efile, not sure about multiple states
Just filed using Credit Karma and can confirm that multiple states are free as well. Had to file for 2 states in addition to federal. Had a couple brokerage 1099s, all of which this accepted. I first started doing my return using freetaxusa.com and was ready to pay $15 per state but then this came along and saved me $30 and the numbers were within a few dollars of each other.

I'm a former turbotax deluxe desktop user. I'm mostly done with my FreeTaxUSA and have had zero issues, just waiting on a few more forms. Does an OK job importing PDFs. Sure I had to type a few things in but its been no big deal. I think I have more complicated taxes than most and it hasn't been an issue. They support 1099-DIV/B, Schedule C/E, K-1. No problem with my backdoor Roth IRA.

My plan was to try it out and buy TTax if I had to, even if I miss a deal. Doesn't look like that will be needed.

FreeTaxUSA.com is 100% free for most filers and is not run by a bunch of jerks like Intuit. Please do not support Intuit. Source: am a CPA.
Agreed.

Look at what they did to Quickbooks. Force a subscription model that price 3x higher. When you don't pay the ransom, you cannot access you data. This is a desktop program.

F Them.

I did my personal with FreeTaxUSA. Much easier than TT.

I only they create business Tax too. This unfortunately, I have to use TurboTax. I tried HR Block and it is very confusing.

Anyone care to elaborate what kinda things cashapp taxes wouldn't be good for? I imagine the only people that wouldn't want to use it would be business or rental property owners?

What used to be Credit Karma tax (free) is now Cash App tax (still free for most cases )

I do my taxes in both turbo tax and cash app to make sure totals match up within a dollar (since Turbo tax catches some situations and tax cuts better) then submit for free with cash app once satisfied.

turbo tax only makes you pay when ready to submit or preview forms. it shows your obligations, etc for free.
Thanks!

Does anyone know if you can fill out the rental property filing as my brother is in a duplex and rents out the other half

That's what I was thinking but I will give it a try, will also see if turbo tax is any good. Trying to ditch my accountant who's charging us $200 a return
