Love BC2, BF3 and BF4... vietnam was fun as well...

question is, does anyone still play these online?

BC2's servers sadly were shut down a few months ago :sob:

But there is a community that still runs games on PC via "Project Rome" and with backups of player files.

BF3 and BF4: yes.

I hear you…

But BF1 is a masterpiece! It is absolutely worth a try.

BFV is quite good, but in the shadow of BF1 for immersive-ness. It seems like they tried to move more in the direction of modern shooters that incorporate more sliding and running mechanics.

I'd rather pay an extra buck and have it on Steam. Sure it launches you into EA anyway but the ability to have the game in steam is worth the buck.

Battlefield 1 was pretty buggy at launch and so it did not get the love it deserved. I haven't played a game that has quite the same cinematic experience as Battlefield 1.
They are still buggy as crap. I just played through 3 very recently and now playing through 4. A decade later these games still have issues. 3 you can't complete the subway level if you remapped your jump key (if you follow QTE prompts at least) and in 4 your AI teammates are constantly blocking you into a corner, assuming you actually use cover. I had to grenade myself today so I would die....on the first campaign level. Not a good start. Still tons of fun and the maps look fantastic.

Replace "1" with any BF version and the statement is still true.
Amen.

BTW, 2142 was still the best. Anyone says otherwise should meet me by the swingset after school.

I'm mostly a single player kinda guy, the multiplayer games I have enjoyed most are Subspace top down space combat shooter from around the late 90s / early 2000s. battlefield 1942 and Nintendo's Splatoon series. I'll throw atari's gauntlet arcade series in here as well. there's a lot of depth and replayability in these games.
If you haven't played it, check out Children of Morta. Totally feels like a modern incarnation of Gauntlet.

Before you go and buy those, check if you already have it on Origin/EA from the freebies years ago. Unless you really want to have it on Steam.

BF1 had surprisingly good single player. I think it flew under the radar a little bit because BF games are primarily multiplayer. The campaigns/missions were really well done.

They need to make proper sequel to BF2142 instead of re-releasing same game(3) as 4,5,1 whatever with few tweaks

Yeah, it's true for almost all computer games. I don't play anything until it's 2+ years old. By then they've worked out most if not all the bugs they're going to bother fixing. Games are also way cheaper by then and so is the hardware that'll run it. I really enjoyed Battlefield 1.

Yes, BF4, BF1, and BFV all have pretty active player bases. More active than 2042 even, since they are much better games.

Can't really go wrong with any of them, but BF4 and BFV are my favorites. BF1 doesn't quite have the "Battlefield feeling", but it is still really well done.
battlefield: vietnam is not more active than 2042. i've played 2042 and never had any issues matchmaking, theres one active server in BFV & BF1942 per Gametracker :

https://www.gametracker.com/search/bfv/
https://www.gametracker.com/search/bf1942/

Another old game that's good with a few active server is MoH:AA
