The OG's a great if you have Cam Plus. The V3's support Cam Plus Lite. I do have Cam Plus for my OG and one V3, and use Cam Plus Lite for my V2 and other V3 and Outdoor V1 cameras.
Yeah I have the unlimited plan

+1. The versatility can't be beat, and at $20 they are not much of a risk if something happens due to exposure or pets.

Tldr for those who want to use wz_mini_hacks:
  • Download v3 firmware version 4.36.9.139. You do not need the "RTSP firmware".
  • Format a microsd card fat32 (get good quality microSD). Put the firmware file at the root of sd card and insert into camera.
  • Hold Setup button while plugging in power for a few seconds until the light turns purple-ish. Camera is upgrading. Wait for it to complete and it will reboot.
  • Set up the camera in the Wyze app as normal, do not upgrade firmware if asked. Recommend to disable detection, recording, logo, notifications, etc. Give it a min or two to save.
  • Power off and pull SD card. Format card again. Download the wz_mini repo. Copy the files in "SD_ROOT" to the root of SD card.
  • Modify wz_mini/wz_mini.conf per the documentation (see below). Probably want to add your SSH key as well (etc/ssh/authorized keys). Can set ENABLE_SELFHOSTED_MODE="true" to block Wyze access.
  • Reboot, you should hear some set up audio.

I have the V1 cameras and I'm pretty disappointed in them. I 100% prefer Ring.

I have a subscription remaining for one Wyze cam that was cheap so I kept it for the heck of it. I have to regularly restart it because it stops detecting motion. I'll look and the last thing it recorded was 9 hours ago in a busy area. Reboot it and it immediately starts detecting motion again until I have to do it again the next day or later that same day. Also they screwed something up in a firmware update and now it's basically useless at night.

I've had next to zero problems with my Ring cameras and I'm not at all concerned about them not recording something like I am the Wyze. I've had both for years and I only trust Ring.
The V1 is trash looks like VHS compare to the V3 and the OG. For $19 this is a steal. The quality of the V3 and the LG are better than your ring cameras at a much reduced cost The V3 has video quality like $100 camera this is one of the best selling cameras in history The quality is excellent in compares like I said to $100 cameras. I also have hardwired POE cameras 1080p and 4K and I use WYZE cams Right alongside them.

Running two at my house. Video is clear. Running only internal storage no cloud. Every now and then the camera will not connect to app. I restart the app then it connects.

Sometimes it is slow to access local video playback.

Wyze Nerfed up the ios mobile application on playback. Tries to sell you the monthly service.

Decent system overall. Can't beat for price.

The OG has a
built-in light,
Bluetooth setup
much faster
Better quality at night
Can do picture in picture
Has a much better event screen
I have almost 20 of these and still have a couple v3s. I sold most of my v3s
if you have a V2 or V1 sell them their quality is terrible compared to these new ones
I love the OGs
Hmmm... I may try the OGs if it can quickly access the SD card from the point of the alert. Even though I have the free 12-15 second upload every 5 minutes on my V2/3s I still wind up needing to go to the SD card anyway. Sometimes it works, other times it doesnt.

Been using these for years and have been pretty happy with them. I've had a few die over the years but they're very inexpensive so not a big deal. I really like that they have SD slots.

If I use this with an SD card will I get motion alerts in the app and be able to open it right away and watch the video (without any subscription)? Or would I have to take the SD card out to view? thanks

So lets say I have it mounted under my covered porch and someone walks up to the door.. I will get a notification from the app and I can watch 15 seconds only? Then if I want to watch longer I have to remove the card?
