Samsuck and Losing Grievously... stay away. Appliance repair folks recommend simple Whirlpool products. When they need repair the parts are cheap and available.

GE was bought by Haier a few years ago. They used to make good fridges.

Repeating: friends don't let friends buy Samsung or LG fridges.

Search through SD threads for Samsung appliances, there are a TON of negative reviews and experiences. Samsung is great for TV's and stereos, but their appliance dept just can't quite get it right. Even positive threads on Samsung phones will have people slamming the appliances. If you really want one, swing by Lowe's "scratch and dent" or "backwall" section and you'll probably find Samsung fridges and washers and dryers for 50% off or more. But look at the reviews first to see what you're getting into. I'm a cheapskate and love a great deal, but the hassle of the Samsung is just not worth the discount.

I don't know about LG, but GE has always had a pretty solid reputation for fridges. And they've been around for a loooong time. Good luck!

Had the exact model from American Freight for almost a year. So far so good.
Some annoying things:
1. The trays in the fridge will get foggy.
2. Freezer has a tray for ice and other stuff. Once this tray is full, it is heavy. It'd be better to push it in before closing the freezer door.
3. Above the ice tray is glass/plastic. Do not overfill ice.

I have this. Still pretty new but no major complaints. Had a similar Samsung model at my last house with no complaints over 8+ years. I always avoid in-door ice makers which seem to be the source of most problems.

Minor complaints on this GE that we're not an issue on the Samsung:
Can't open the right side drawer without opening the left door at least partially.
The full width short drawer similarly needs both doors wide open.
The inside water dispenser is slow and useless, better to just put a bottle in the fridge or get ice if you want cold water.

Nice things:
GE will send a free filter bypass plug if you call or chat. (I have RO fed to the ice maker line)

The doors on this unit have the least out swing of any unit we looked at. Ours is placed near a wall on the right so we can get this closer to the wall

Samsung/LG older than 5 years were built better. Newer appliances are built with planned obsolescence in mind and are the ones breaking down and receiving negative reviews. Our LG bought in 2019 broke down in about 2 years.

They're poor quality and always run. Not very good insulation.

My neighbor had it. It's reality pretty but loses temperature often, as the tiny little drain leads to build up causing water to build up in the evaporator and fan and freeze completely. Just watch for that, it's a pain to clean out but it's not too hard, we used vinyl tubing from the hardware store. It's not the easy peasy giant p-trap like on your dads Whirlpool Smilie. One other thing that's weird is the underside coils are tiny and hidden inside a fabric tube so the best you can do is to clean the fabric cover.. if it gets to much dust it heats up

Can anyone comment how much electricity it consumes? Can I use it in the garage with normal power plug?

This appliance only works properly between 60F and 100F. Not really suitable for a garage use.

Here is a link to the energy guide. https://images.thdstatic.com/cata...4ee2d8.pdf

I have a 10 year old Samsung French door bottom freezer that recently started going blonkers. Temperature display keeps changing by itself. All the parts related to it are discontinued and not available new or used.

Really the water is that bad? The filter is such a selling point for me. Was gonna buy this.

Just say no to samsung appliances.

Say God no to through the door ice makers.

Say a final no to even using any ice maker - don't connect the water line and live a happy and content life.

If you need ice buy a bag at the grocery store or buy a 90 dollars countertop unit, use it once every few months to make a bag of ice.
