Might want to read this before buying....https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/...e%20tongue.

For thise that dont want to read heres the results:
Results
The DeChoker resulted in gross injury to the tongue and failed to remove the obstruction in all trials. LifeVac was successful in removing the barium‐moistened saltines but failed to remove all other foreign bodies. Both devices applied significant pressure to the tongue.

i see people downvoting others, but the above is a medical study on two commonly available choking devices, including the one which this deal is for. seems a bit like snake oil to me as well

Have a medical doctor in the family who told us the actual studies show these are not only ineffective but can cause severe damage to the tongue. You are FAR better off learning and practicing the Heimlich.

I saved a choking baby at a client's home.

The mother and nanny left baby in a high chair while they frantically searched upstairs for a missing package. I was reading a paper when I realized the baby across the room and in back was quiet. I looked behind me and the baby was blue. She was in distress but couldn't make any sounds. I ran over and tipped her head down - gave her a whack on the back. After third whack a glob of potato chips came out and baby gasped into a cry. The glob was like glue or paste.

If people have nanny's and such, there needs to be a list of things NOT to let a baby eat . People know about dangers of hot dogs but things like chips or crackers or even bread can get like paste.

It never occurred to me to use Heimlich on such a small body.

You did the right thing, a heimlich is not done on infants or babies.

The maneuver is to place them on your forearm, support their head/neck with your hand. Tilt them at a downward angle, then strike them in the back with the palm of your hand. With enough force you would reasonably need to dislodge something.

That was pretty much what I did. The kid wasn't even walking yet. I was a lifeguard in HS but never had instruction about babies. But they are so small just tipping seemed way to go. Every whack was a little harder. When after 2 whacks nothing happened I was like " no cant die on me" so the last whack was for all the chips. Pressed-up from underneath at same time

I have the life vac and for whatever stupid reason wanted to see how it worked. I feel like some of my brain was slightly moved and is now sitting slightly closer to my nasal cavity.

2 questions
1. Is that Vicente del Bosque in the picture in Amazon?
2. Why all those 5 star reviews saying they've never used the product?

Reported this anti science bullshit. This is an FDA approved class 1 device.

For the record, the FDA says this is a safe and effective device. Are you disagreeing with our public health authority? I'll wait.
not the op, but who did you report it to? the journal itself? lol. fda class I device? do you even know what that means? it's the lowest, simplest rank of device, thought to do the least harm, and includes items like crutches, bandaids and the like. the majority of them don't need regulatory approval and the fda doesn't evaluate them for efficacy.

while there are anecdotes to support its use, randomized trials will never occur and it will be impossible to prove that's its better or worse than normal anti-choking methods.

The problem with devices like these is that they may not be around when you need it. When someone is choking, you don't have time to go search for the device, and you certainly don't have time to go find the instructions and go through them step by step. It's a good idea though, and cxan come in handy provided you have the device available and know how to use it.
The life vac comes with a test unit for that reason. Not sure about this.
