Well, enjoy your moral victory over these criminals taking advantage of... The Home Depot, Inc. and Ryobi Power Tools (a subsidiary of Techtronic Limited). Taking money from the mouths of hard working local artisans.
Ignore the fact that these same companies know how to *package products together as a single item which can't be returned in parts* and *accurately price their deals to generate profit and future sales*, this is certainly a super secret mistake that only the worst of hackers would ever exploit.
Ripping off the retailer???
It's a clearly printed return value on their receipt. If they didn't want to prorate items, they'd do what Lowes does and just zero out the "free" item, which forces you to return both.
It's perfectly clear that HD doesn't care and is still making tons of money… even if a small percentage of people are getting 30-40% off things. If it were affecting them in any way, they'd change the policy.
If that helps you sleep at night, then tell yourself that. But deep down we all know doing this isn't ethical.

Not really worried about the ethics in use against a billion dollar corporation. Pay more, none of us will care. You'll have your ethics and less cash. This has been going on at least the 5 years I have been in the ryobi line

Wrong! Home Depot won't let you deliver and pickup...you either have to get all delivered or all pickup. If you try this their site will say... "Please make sure promotional items have the same delivery or pickup options and try again"
…Set both for pickup, just at different stores.
The concept ain't that hard to grasp.

"hackers"… folks that follow clearly printed instructions on a vendors receipt… gets me every time 🙃
(Agree 100% with the rest though)

And that's the definition between a good American, and a corrupt American. Welcome to the corrupt American club.
So judgemental. Warren buffet doesn't pay anything in taxes but I am the corrupt one
He pays millions in taxes, but not relevant. Also more than one person can be corrupt. I think our hearts tell us this "hack" is not moral, but some will ignore their heart and others will not.

It's been going on at least 5 years, I'm guessing they know. They could easily correct it with a few lines of code. Personally, I don't care to argue about it any further.. I'm not getting into this line and not interested in this deal. Every time some guy wants to argue this point and it is moot

I think you're confused about what "ethical" actually means…
