From the team that brought you Baldurs Gate 3, Divinity original sin 1 is spectacular, and Divinity Original Sin 2 is perhaps the greatest game in its genre. Imagine a D&D-style game, but with *gasp* action points that you can spend on ANYTHING. multiple attacks per turn? Sure! Movement? You got it! Combination of both? Go wild. The combat is 10,000,000 better than baldurs gate restrictive system, because they built it from scratch for their own game. It's a delight and a joy to play, the music is top notch the voice acting is excellent, the story is great, and the replay value is insane for each of the origin characters (Lohse is the best, of course). If you haven't played it...correct that error.

DOS 2 is better than Baldur's Gate 3.
Simply because D&D sucks. The rules suck. They always have. And they are horrible for a video game.
Original Sin 2 is much better from a gameplay perspective.

Worth it a million times over. Astonished by how much people on here seem to hate BG3. I will say BG3 is more strict as it follows D&D rules. If you're unfamiliar it can be a bit of a learning curve. Kind of sad that a lot of people on here bitch just because it's a little over their heads.
But yes this is a little more of a traditional strat/rpg type combat. Sometimes it can still be tough but they fully intended fights to be a playground…Distract an enemy in conversation. Use another member to set up explorable barrels all around them. Start the fight, warp away and blow up the enemies.. you can get fairly creative.
I bought both divinities at around $25 a piece and honestly wouldn't have minded paying full price. They are gems with great combat, characters, music, story, etc etc.
Combat is more of a strategic turn based experience. If you've played Baldur's Gate 3, it's similar to that, but instead of Primary/Secondary actions, you have a pool of points to spend each turn. There are complex environment interactions like being able to throw people off a cliff, teleporting to a safely elevated location, dousing enemies in oil then casting fire magic, or making it rain to reveal invisible enemies. I loved DOS2. Top 5 games of the past 10 years.

That's probably my biggest gripe with the BG3. Even on normal difficulty, it seems that many encounters (even the simplest ones) can be totally lucked based vs skill
