With the recent storms in California, we lost our power for 3 days. This little guy kept our fridge and freezer running and cold and saved us a ton on food! We ran it pretty consistently for those three days.
We also used it to run some lights, a TV, and our internet router so we had TV for the duration of the outage.
There is a design flaw where it sucks air from the bottom so don't place it on grass, dirt, sand; place it on a board or something to keep it from vacuuming debris into it.
For $200 this generator is amazing and does everything we needed it to do.
I got one of the bigger ones and it can run my fridge, internet, and phones for 28hrs on a single charge. My generator takes 2 hours to charge it back up to full.
It saves you a massive amount on gas. Useful for us where there is no cell service and the nearest gas station is 40 minutes away. The Creek Fire was our "proof of concept" moment when roads were closed for 3 weeks. All the neighbors ran out of gas week 1.
We have a small generator to top off the battery, as well as a 12500w starting to run the entire house+well when needed.

This puppy is loud, it's no Honda. And the air intake on the bottom is just dumb.
But, you won't find a better inverter generator for cheaper than this

There are better options on the market now (with LiFePo4 batteries) but this one will suit my needs just fine.

It's hard to beat for the money, but yes - you generally shouldn't run this thing directly on dirt where its intake might pick up debris - simple solution really, just stick a piece of plywood or similar under it.
Should I start it up upon receipt and then perform the storage process?
How long should one revive the machine between storage periods?
For reference, 50dB is 1/4 as loud as 70dB & 40dB is 1/8 as loud as 70dB which is just an arbitrary base of comparison.

Other than that, it's not a good idea to leave gas in them, it'll gum up the carb and cause problems. This is one of the reasons I really like dual fuel units for situations where they might only be used once or twice a year.

These don't come with oil, so you have to provide that yourself. Once you confirm it's working, you can run the carb dry & shut it off by using the fuel shutoff - that's generally good enough for mid-term storage where you expect to run the generator again within 6 months. If you intend to store it longer than that, you should empty the tank and use the petcock valve on the carb to drain it completely.
