MaxTool Super Sale via eBay has Honda 2200W Remote Stop/Recoil Start Bluetooth Gasoline Powered Inverter Generator (EU2200ITAN) on sale for $999 - 20% off when you apply coupon code PRESIDENT20 on the checkout page = $799.20. Shipping is free.
Thanks to Community Member sjh9 for sharing this deal.
About this product:
Can operate up to 8.1 hours on single fuel tank
Advanced Inverter technology provides stable 2,200-Watt power
CO-MINDER sensor offers protection against carbon monoxide
It's not necessarily a question of one or the other. It depends on your use case.
If your intention is backup power for your house, a battery/inverter setup will get you through X amount of time (depending on your use and your total capacity), and then a generator like this could be used to top off the battery as needed. Run silent on battery @ night, then top off again during the day (if you don't have solar, or if it's cloudy).
I think he meant it as a dig against the deal… but yeah, he was saying "this is too good to be true".
Regardless of how he meant it… it was/is the truth. These aren't gonna get any cheaper.
The old thread that showed $599 is like so many other threads with a bunch of TU… while almost nobody actually got the deal. In that thread people were driving all over even chasing $699… and couldn't find it.
This was a unicorn deal… with people actually able to buy.
Yeah I thought so... it seemed like a sh*tty comment to me. But, interpreted differently (and with the help of your comment) pretty humorous .
Man, speaking of a unicorn deal... I managed to buy a clearance Honda EG2800i for $599 a few years ago. I drove ~1.5-2 hours from home to be there before the store opened. Walked in --> there it was. I still have the box and the price sticker lol. Bananas.
I bought and installed the breather-heater kit for it (lived in PA at the time), as well as an OEM hour+rpm meter.
This deal, on the other hand, was much easier. No driving required, and an insane price. I wonder what their margin will be on these (if any?). I can't imagine they're selling at a loss. Maybe trying to unload some inventory? Also occurred to me: what if Honda is going to be release a new model this year, so suppliers are trying to clear out the current EU2200i??
The current EU2200i dropped to $999 at HD and many other retailers a few weeks ago. Anyway. If they DO release a new model, almost guaranteed it's not going to be $999... and sure as hell not $799!
The old eu2000 was around for about 17 years… maybe more. I'd be a little bit surprised if they have a replacement model for this one already. Honestly, I think the economy is tightening a bit, and they had excess inventory from catching up after the pandemic shortages.
That's not a bad thought though, it'll be interesting to see if they do come out with a new model. I'm still satisfied with this one though. With a gas engine in it I don't really see how they could do much different… this model was just a slight change from the previous one so between the two they've been around for 20 something years or more. They *could* add a propane port… and that would be seen as a totally new model. Hmm… we'll see… but I bet it's excess inventory.
I'm very happy with the deal and looking forward to getting mine. :-)

Yeah, I'm glad I got in on this. Not sure they're going to release a new model though..

New model outright replacing this one seems unlikely - especially for a feature like dual fuel, which would probably add a good $300+. Any lower ('closeout') deals than this seems highly unlikely.
I think the recent price reduction (to $999) is probably a combination of the factors you mentioned, plus they're losing a lot of their sales volume to cheaper chinese options, which have proven to be competitive in performance at a fraction of the price.
Victron (a similarly high-end manufacturer of solar components) recently slashed their solar charge controller prices, likely for the very same reason.
Congrats on your (2nd) genny. Mine comes today too. I'm pretty excited to check it out. I won't be leaving this one in the box. I also ordered Sta-Bil Marine to treat the fuel after reading a ton of Amazon reviews. I'm gambling that ethanol-free isn't mandatory. (Based on those reviews).
That drop to $999? That isn't permanent. Some sellers are already back to the normal price… which isn't even $1199… but actually $1299 now.
I was satisfied with $999 until this deal popped up. MaxTool is apparently a distributor network, because mine shipped from just a few hours away, NOT from CA. Today should be fun for a few of us in this thread. 🙂👍
BTW… for anyone who wanted this and thinks they missed out… see the people here who tried to ship to California and their orders were cancelled? Check again and try PRESIDENT20 in the code box. It appears there's a couple still available.

Hey, thanks for the great insights!! What you said makes perfect sense. Supply chain, clearing out inventory etc. I share similar sentiments about the economy as well. Better to sell them now, even at a big discount, than not be able to sell them at all and have them on the books.
I hadn't considered the fact that the EU2000 had been out for SO long before the 2200i came out. So they upped the displacement for the EU2200, and then added Bluetooth. So yeah, would be surprising for them to release a significant update! Also, I forgot about the EU3200. Their much more expensive but similarly size generator, released in June 2022.
Hey, congrats on your genny as well! In keeping with my tendency to over-think things, I picked up some "break in" oil (1qt Royal Purple, and 1qt "Maxima Premium Break-In" oil, from Amazon). I also found a few different threads in forums describing break-in procedures (one from someone who worked on small engines for years, apparently). Champion even has a note about it in their FAQ.
https://www.championpowerequipment.com/faq/[championpowerequipment.com] "The first five hours of usage we call the break-in period. The purpose of the break-in period is to seat the rings of the piston. During the break in period stay at or below 50% of the running watt rating and vary the load occasionally to allow stator windings to heat and cool. As with all new engines, the piston rings and cylinder need to be broken in."
"This is important for the newly manufactured cylinder wall and rings to seat themselves. It is not necessary to run the generator for five hours straight to do the break-in period. The generator can run for five hours over any period up until they reach those five hours."
Some might argue "If it was necessary, Honda would recommend it". While I don't disagree, the rationale and the "physics" behind a break-in period are sound, and don't just apply to small engines like these. After seeing the amount of metal particles that came out of my EG2800i after the first oil change, I'm definitely going to do it with this EU2200i! For an $800-$1,000 purchase, seems like a small amount of extra $$ and effort to break it in gently.

Although it looks like they got more in stock, the code doesn't seem to work anymore on them.

Got mine earlier, just fired it up a bit ago for break-in and so far so good! Really like the bluetooth functionality as a way to keep an eye on power output, not to mention remote-shutoff - that will be handy when you're done topping off a battery and the weather sucks!
Eco mode's throttle seems to work nice and smoothly adjusting to different levels of power output demand, and no problem maxing out my EF Delta 2's AC input @ 1.2kW: https://i.imgur.com/UHZ0Afl.jpeg
for those of you guys trying to get it to ship to ca, don't, because it is clearly labeled on the box "not for sale in california". you have to be very blind to miss that, no offense to blind folks.
Although it looks like they got more in stock, the code doesn't seem to work anymore on them.
Wow... you're right.
"20% off, no min, $500 max, 2x useSee details."
I only used it once, for ~$200. I tried it again --> not accepted! Also, the items Iv'e tried it on are IN the Presidents Day sale. And they qualify, based on showing up as search results (search field reads ""Search Score 20% off for President's Day").
Looks like a f*ck-up on eBay's part, with the coupon code?
Also, looks like it's an eBay coupon?? So eBay ate the $200 discount on these generators?? Makes me feel even better .
For anyone who wants to use the coupon again, sounds like you should be able to and eBay should honor it. No idea how one would go about contacting support, and who knows how responsive they might be. Might be better off creating a new account, as annoying as that might be.

I believe this is what's called a 'score'...
Super happy especially after an initial break-in run. I somehow managed to put in exactly as much gas as it needed to get my EF Delta 2 to 100%.. Took quite a few pulls to get its fuel system primed, but once it got fuel it started up readily - below freezing out.
Still not the cheapest generator of course, but where its cheaper competitors' lifespans are measured in years, Hondas are often measured in decades. There's a place for both.

I chatted with eBay for prob 45 mins, where they were supposedly trying to help me get the code to work. Ultimately, it was a complete waste of time.
Mine came yesterday, everything is perfect. I half expected it to at least be open box but it was brand new. Great deal! So much quieter than my Champion 2500, even with a similar dba rating. I imagine it's because of the larger cc engine in the Honda not working as hard. The larger muffler doesn't hurt either. Now to buy the Hutch Mountain kit for it.

I think someone else shared a link to a website to buy a US made magnetic drain plug. Again, not provided or specified by the manufacturer but couldn't hurt over time.https://genexhaust.com/magnetic-dipsticks-oil-change-tubes-oil-filler-tubes/ [genexhaust.com]
