Costco has the all colors of the 5th Gen iPad Air 64GB on sale for $449.99 through 2/24/2024.

They also have the 256GB version on sale for $599.99

These are both $120 off Costco's listed price.

Uhh have you ever been on an airplane? WiFi is extremely limited so you need to watch your streaming service shows/movies that are downloaded to your device for offline viewing. With 64 GB and the Operating System taking up more and more of that space with updates, you soon become VERY limited with the amount of video you can store on the device itself.

It really depends on what you do with it. Keep in mind that the iPad is not ONLY a media consumption device. Some people use it for photo/video/audio editing, design work, etc which demand a lot of space. Some travel often and need the space to store games, music, videos, etc. If you have an iPhone and like to sync your camera roll to your iPad, then that in itself could be a problem if you record a lot of videos.

Getting more storage space gives you the flexibility to use the iPad as more than just a browsing and streaming device. Storing the data in an external drive is not always an option or convenient depending on the situation or the apps you are using. If none of these apply to you or interest you, then by all means a 64GB would be enough.
