These are washable, but they need to air dry and it takes a while. Buy at least two sets so you always have a backup while you're washing one of them.
Also, if you're doing any fine particulate work like sanding drywall, always use a vac bag. They're a little over a buck each, but they save so much time not having to unclog your filter.
Those cyclone dust separators are almost as effective, but they aren't nearly as portable.

After looking at my model (got it on black Friday deal) the dimensions are off by an inch on length width and height.

No, absolutely not. It'll get saturated and overstress your motor.
They make specific filters for water with fine particulate, but most vacs also come with a mesh or foam filter that's more porous for wet vacuuming.
You can also make one using mesh screen or sump pump filter material.
