It has 4GB eMMC storage on board.

Which means that it does have a finite life, and can't be replaced.

Whether that's a factor in practical usage depends on what the chip is rated for, and how much recording is done.

With Ring jacking up their price for users on the lowest plan, I've started looking into alternatives.

They all seem to have small compromises in some fashion, and what I dislike about the Eufy is that it isn't compatible with existing built-in chimes. I don't want to rely on a plug-in.

Also takes a leap of faith to buy from a company that obfuscated, and resisted acknowledging their privacy lapses, before finally coming clean [theverge.com].

Been using this since 2020 and no issues. Survives MN winters/summers, good buy in my book.

Eufy models that have a battery can be used with existing chimes. Like the E340 can be used wired or wireless.

A lot of Eufy stuff connects to the Eufy Home Base which is where everything gets stored. This product doesn't support it.
Eufy's wired doorbells (this specific model included) do not pair with their Home Base, including the newest Home Base 3.

As the owner of this model, and other Eufy cameras, I have been disappointed with the detection getting worse over time/updates. It seems their attempts to reduce false positives (such as detecting a car's wheels as a face) has negatively impacted any movement detection/recording at all. Mine misses people all the time if their face is obscured or looking away. Maybe the new ones are better, but I cannot recommend this model in 2024.

i bought this and had to return it shortly after… the camera only picks up the backs of people walking away if it actually picked up anything. i kept getting ghost notifications even after calling customer service and working through their recommendations. i would walk in and out the front door, stop and stand there, wave to the camera and no notification was sent to my phone. at least i got a notification when the doorbell button was pressed.

Which you do you really recommend instead of this one and blink? Thank you!
Someone showed me their nest cam and it looked really good. I know nothing about nest and tbh never considered it as an option but all I remembers it looked really good.

Can you add your own micro SD card for recording or there is in built storage for this? TIA
According to their manual, it has a micro SD card slot in the chime (to be plugged to an indoor AC outlet paired with the doorbell).

I ordered one and will confirm if this works as their other camera models that support local storage.

I have Nest doorbell and outdoor cameras. They require subscription ($8 per month with 30 days of event recordings, or $15 per month with additional 10 days continuous recording). I don't like the cost and am moving to local recording with eufy.

I setup my own local recording with RTSP streaming (montioneye docker image running on OMV container) with 4 eufy cameras, will add the doorbell soon.

Had to disable any kind of detection on mine because of so many false alarms. Can't really tell what is triggering them. I first disabled the sound triggering, then reduced the sensitivity to lowest setting. Moved the detection area away from foliage. Same thing. Numerous false alarms. Kind of defeats the purpose. Might try the reolink one next

I have this and like others, the detection is hit or miss. Overall it's ok. But I also feel like there's not a single video doorbell on the market that everyone is happy with. There's always something wrong. Storage, detection, quality, lag time, subscription costs, longevity, night vision, etc.

According to its own graphic… this won't save files "inside the house." Which I guess means it only stores inside the device and not a hub.

That's a pretty major security flaw IMO.
No, the data on the device is encrypted and tied to your authentication within your app. If you could pull put the media, nobody can read it without a rift device and your authentication.

I just started looking, and haven't really formed an opinion yet.

As an Apple user, the HomeKit Secure Video feature of the Logitech appeals to me, but the complaints about hardware durability issues give me pause. Plus, it seems abnormally thick in form.

Like I said, all of them seem to have +/- so it's going to depend on your own priorities, and these experiences are very YMMV.

I've had a Ring Pro since 2018, and it has been smooth sailing, but that hasn't been true for many users.

Quote from helloroad :

Yep, they've targeted those who aren't on the higher tier plans. I only have the doorbell, and don't plan to buy anything else Ring so I'll never need to go to a higher plan. My term doesn't roll over until September, so I have some time to figure it out.

Good to know, but the fact that it's a battery-powered unit that serves both wired and wireless roles also gives me pause.

Lithium batteries don't like to live life at full charge; it shortens their lifetime, and leads to things like swelling.

If Eufy didn't take that into account and employ a BMS with smart logic, and the battery is constantly "topped up" as they say in the description, then that's an engineering compromise.

Sure, that's offset by the fact that the battery is replaceable, but I'm still not enamored by that approach.

I used mine with the door chime I have. There is an option in the app.... Maybe I have an older model?

Great doorbell!
