I have this model for personal use. Feels alot heavier than my 13 inch air m1 i use for work , which makes me not want to lug it around. I wind up grabbing my work machine more. The 8gb does bottle up when you have too many chrome tabs open and you can notice the sluggishness. The real star of any of the m series Mac machines is the battery life, both last for days.

Yep true. I work for a startup. We have 2 pieces of software. It's pretty low profile, however, it could be the cause. Still, it would be solved by having 16GB of RAM.

You sound weird claiming a 3.3 lb laptop is like a desktop in weight. Thats ridiculous. The laptop also supports a power brick that weights almost nothing compared to many other laptops. Most likely in one year I travel and see the world more than you do. Africa, Australia, the Far East, Europe etc. How many people do you know that go to Australia once per year? I dont know what international carriers you fly. But I fly in business class and first and dont see any issue with my laptop of other bags I take on board. that includes Qanatas, Virgin, BA, United, some regional carriers in Africa, etc, I know of no situation where a laptop that weighs 3.3 vs 2.7 is going to be any issue. I also have not seen any issues with people in coach that have a 3 lb laptop.
I was not the one who said a 3.3 lb laptop is like a desktop. I was merely stating how you come off when you are insensitive of other people's situations. Your statement of traveling in higher-end airlines in business class again confirms your insensitivity towards other people's situations.

I don't think anyone who travel in business class on a regular basis would actually brag about it in a public forum, especially a deals forum but I guess there's always THAT person out there.

Now you don't just come off as a dbag, .....you actually, well, you know.

Actually when you say a 3 lb laptop is like a desktop thats ridiculous. They are called air for a reason. its a 15 inch screen. There are few if any laptops at 15 inches that are lighter other than LG gram. Even then what is the total weight with the charger. I guess there is always that person why doesnt know the category.

It's a MacBook Air. 8gb is fine. You're not going to be able to do anything that would require you to need 16gb anyway.

Again please learn to read. I WAS NOT THE ONE WHO SAID THAT THE 3.3 LBS LAPTOP IS LIKE A DESKTOP. THAT WAS SOME ONE ELSE.

I have both 13 and 15 M2 Air and the 15 incher does feel significantly less portable.

With the 13 I can just lift and go, hold with 1 palm and type with the other while running around. The 15 is also doable but I have to be more deliberate about it.

There's just more surface area and more weight. It's hard facts, what's there to get pissy about?
Sound like you are pissy about having toddler sized hands...

You're not going to be able to touch this price with the new chips onboard, duh! Why do you think they're on sale? With not much excitement around the new chips, the M2's are fine.
And stop with the "need 16gb ram".
It's all you Windows users that don't understand how a Mac runs. Read up on it.

I agree with everyone, 8gb is a joke. People should stop buying this, otherwise Apple will continue to push it, justifying it by numbers of sold units.
So little ol you is going to force Apple to make 16gb ram minimum? And people should stop buying?
Have you looked at Apples earnings?
Do you what their best selling laptops are?
Are you even a Mac user or just trolling to bash on the RAM?
I'm guessing the answer is no to all of above.

8gb is unacceptable in 2024. Apple like to give you just enough so you upgrade earlier.
Oh stop with RAM crap already. Do you even own a MacBook? I'm guessing no, so your input is completely useless.

I know I'm preaching to the choir, but the most obnoxious thing about Apple going with 8GB ram in the base model is that finding a 16gb model is IMPOSSIBLE.

If you try to order a 16gb model from Apple directly, it pushes the delivery out a week or two. If you try to buy one from literally any other store, most only have it with a 1TB SSD in midnight blue.

So in my case, it was $999 for the 8gb/256 or $1199 for the 8gb/512 or $1599 for the 16gb/1000 because the 16/512 was out of stock. Now even that isn't an option anymore.

That's what really stinks. Making 8gb standard made it almost impossible to get 16gb. And I don't care what Apple says, 16gb should be the minimum when the iphone 15 comes with 6gb ram. Does it make a difference? YES IT DOES. Even something as simple as having too many browser tabs open will start to make an impact on those 8gb machines. I say that from experience.

Ultimately I went with the 8gb/512gb model because I have a powerful desktop... I can live with a lightweight laptop. I would never recommend 8gb ram for your only computer.
Do you understand retailers are clearing out inventory for the new machines coming in March?
This is why you can't walk into Best Buy and get the config you want. They're gone.

I've been a Mac user exclusively since 2010 and no, 8GB is NOT enough (especially by modern standards). It's also very weird that you're replying to every single person who has a VALID criticism of this product/configuration...
