When the iPhone got popular, it brought a lot of jerks into the apple fanbase
And stop with the "need 16gb ram".
It's all you Windows users that don't understand how a Mac runs. Read up on it.
smh
Because of the large cost Difference for RAM, seems 8gb is the way to go and just plan to upgrade 3-5 years out (assuming your daily workload is sustainable with 8gb and you are looking for a light, 15" Apple laptop). For hard drive I'm now just committed to making iCloud my hard drive.. so the small hard drive space is a don't care. Bottom line is that Apple wins big either way cause you're stuck with their ecosystem.
Good thing I didn't settle for 8gb of ram and did more research. This video explains it
8GB M3 Mac vs 16GB Windows PC - Did Apple LIE to You?! - YouTube
I'd say if you are only a casual user (internet, documents, etc), this would maybe be enough. Then again, why pay this price if you can have a cheaper 16gb option for windows. I get it when people are just apple fans and like the eco system. If I didn't want to build IOS apps using swift and xcode, I would have stuck to my Dell XPS 13 plus. Otherwise I think Macs are good for development but overpriced.
So I would say for basics, 8 is fine for most. And you would be hard pressed to find a windows laptop that old that still functions.

I had one of those 2013s as well. Ended up getting a 2014 macbook pro as well because I got a crazy good deal on it back then. I still really liked using the Air because it was so thin and light and had a better keyboard than the pro - just a remarkably worse screen lol.
The 15" air actually has a pretty decent screen! And amazing speakers.
Ah but yea. For a second computer to putz around, I think the 8gb/256gb is fine. If this is going to be your only computer, please consider the 16/1tb or a macbook pro instead.
but I've had no issues with 8gb for "normal OS X stuff"

Now, knowing that the MBA is a CONSUMER product, and that most stores will carry the base model....it's heavily implied that most MBA consumers are using...8gb of ram.
Why should Apple switch to anything else if most folks have zero issues with it???? That doesn't make sense, eh? Every time there's a deal that's posted the ram crying crew comes out but I don't truly think they've used an entry-level MBA....OR their use cases are so big that it'd be foolish to use an entry-level MBA.
What I'm typing is the consumer are speaking, and they're saying that they don't care. Why not just get the upgraded MBA and beat your feet?
Sure 8GB might be enough for most people but I have an M2 mini and quite often it closes tabs or apps for me to conserve ram. It is getting a bit annoying but for 350$ I really can't complain. At 1000$ mark I expect top of the line computer and 8GB these days is not even mid range. In addition having slower SSDs is nonsense. size I don't care about here but and m1 Mac with 256 GB will have twice as fast storage. Again something you might actually notice if you work with large files.
At 1000$ you get pretty much top of the line thin and light windows machine, say Samsung Galaxy book pro or LG gram or Acer Swift or whatever floats your boat. Plus you get a much better OLED screen, double the RAM. I like apple products but I am not going to buy them at a premium unless they are competitive.
