I bought the "Jamo Studio Series S 803 Home Cinema System" a year ago, and I completely disagree. I'm not an audiophile by any means, but I like higher quality sound than a simple soundbar or something. The Jamo system fit the bill perfectly for me. So this is going to come down to personal tastes.
acheive true dolby/dts5.1 for pc games and movies on the cheap!
-grab this Jamo 5.1 pack
-grab a good looking 5.1 receiver with optical out on craigslist for 50 bucks (seeing about 8 in my area)
-and then watch THIS video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyoxO8T3L8g
(note that you need a receiver with this pack, it's not powered like a logitech)
Normally there's no way to get true dolby/dts with an optical out you'll be stuck with 2.0 sound, this man shows you how to get your windows true 5.1 output for all games and movies anything using dolby or dts using your motherboard's optical out! this also works via gpu hdmi to your tv and optical out from tv to receiver! (usually works with consoles)
also with this setup you can watch all youtube videos in full surround sound by sending windows' stereo signal to the receiver for upsampling which is life changing
any questions , you can ask me or the guy who does the video, he loves helping people out with this.
otherwise you need to drop $300-$400 on a denon s760h or something and use hdmi directly with passthrough or direct to tv with ARC out
with this deal you can be in another world of sound for $150
you don't need hdmi audio for true dolby/dts!
all need is a free (APO driver) and the know how to get it installed, takes 5 minutes, people have struggled with this for decades...
Got this the last time it came up on sale a few months ago. Use it in the main living room and it's been a big improvement over the cheap Hisense tv speakers. Definitely not worth the advertised $400, but I also don't know much about this market in terms of what's best bang for buck. $100 well spent from my perspective. Wiring wasn't a big deal to me but would be an obvious barrier for some.

And these are available again only in black, I got these a couple of weeks ago for use in the bedroom and for $99 I am pleasantly surprised at how good they sound, the sub hits pretty hard for the size.
