The difficulty with these kinds of questions is that anything will work for anything, it's just degrees of tolerance in quality and function.

Yeah, it'll work just fine for both of those things.

Is this designed for music recording? Would this setup work for podcasting?

I paid $80 for the interface a few months ago, but haven't done much with it except some test mic/guitar recording to make sure it worked at all. Recordings seem pretty comparable to the gen 3 Focusrite Solo I use for Zoom meetings.

Went with the H224 because it seemed like a cheap option for a new interface that could handle 2 inputs, had a more mixer-like layout, and reviews were mostly positive.

The included mics and headphone are probably worth $20 if you have no other mics and/or headphones.

I couldn't find a good comparison review of the focusrite Scarlett 2i2 and the H224 so that is good to know! I have been eyeing the 4th gen and even saw some sales, but I think it was $149 at the cheapest just for the interface, and $199 currently for a similar bundle. The rode ai-1 nt1 bundle I got was closer to $300 and I'm just not happy with it for the price.

The SP150/130 combo is currently $50 on guitarcenter, with that considered this is a really good deal overall. XLR cables, even cheap ones are still around $10 for that length.

My first mic was a Sterling, they're really nice for the value end of things. It was kind of like a budget AT2020. I ended up switching to dynamic mics because they don't pick up as much background noise, but I do remember my sterling very fondly.

Mine arrived a couple days ago, everything in it seems to be pretty decent quality, I haven't done any recording with it yet. The mics come in a hard case, with interior padding, the audio interface feels solidly made, the knobs and buttons have a decent feel to them. Also comes with a license for Tracktion's Waveform OEM DAW and 4 virtual guitar cabinets.
