I've used TextNow on my backup device for many months.
Very satisfied with their free (ad-supported) Tmobile service.

Is there any limitation on a certain number of days for me to activate the SIM? I was thinking of buying it as a backup and activate only when needed.

There is an expiration date on the SIM card kit(about half a year to a year as I could recall), you will have to activate the SIM before that date, or the SIM will become void. Since it's free and unlimited monthly, so I don't think of a good reason to wait(but I could miss something).

Keep in mind that after you start using TextNow's phone number assigned to you, you will need to use it once a while(make calls or send/receive text message) or you will lose the number. You can request for a new number though, so if you don't care about the number much like I do(I mostly make outgoing calls as a backup phone), then you don't worry about losing the number due to inactivity.

Hope that helps.

Does anyone know if their SIM-based number is recognized as VOIP numbers or real numbers?

Can you port out of TextNow for port-in deals to other carriers? Or is it pretty much banned from switch deals?

From my experience, it looks to be VOIP number, like Google voice number.

TextNow has been pretty reliable as far as no extra fees or ToS changes, but they did ban one of my accounts for connecting once through a VPN. That is apparently a zero tolerance policy.

Would activate soon as get it. I activated a sim last month from 2022 they gave them away for free promo. for some reason it doesn't get data for the textnow app i can only make calls. Text or incoming calls won't work without wifi. I tried 2 different phones android and iphone and proper APN settings.

I got it for free works ok over VoIP other than that it's pretty useless..ads suck and have to use their app. I mainly use it as spam phone number for texts on free promos and such.

Has anyone signed up for Shop Disney texts with this company? VOIP numbers in the past tends to be YMMV for me.
