And, of course, I just paid $5 for mine.
Still a deal (but I'm still pissed).

Even for $5 it's a good wireless service. I got two on my parents' phones(they don't need data), and one on my backup phone.

TextNow offers VOIP numbers, just like Google voice numbers, so it's not a real cell numbers, so don't expect for that.
i know, but them using a sim instead of a pure app may seem to people
that it's less virtual and more equipment based - thus i posted it may not.

So when connected to 5G or LTE, you have to use their app as the dialer for phone calls and text? No native phone and messaging integration?
I second this ??

I have their app and it can be a useful service, I thought I'd just point something out that people might want to know before signing up. Everything is "free" and ad supported, except for things like using the number for 2FA verification, then they want you to pay a monthly fee. Only five bucks, but not "free". That is the last time I checked, which was a couple of months ago.

I used them for a while at a previous job so I didn't have to use my real number when calling clients. Worked well for that.

One issue I ran into was very choppy audio. After doing some searching, it seemed to be an issue with my Samsung Watch 4 and the app's Bluetooth connection. I revoked its permission to access Bluetooth, and the choppy audio went away. The only downside was that the app would occasionally show a red banner asking me to grant it permission again. I just ignored it.

You can only get one Google Voice number linked to a real number. You can theoretically get unlimited numbers through TextNow.
