There is an expiration date on the SIM card kit(about half a year to a year as I could recall), you will have to activate the SIM before that date, or the SIM will become void. Since it's free and unlimited monthly, so I don't think of a good reason to wait(but I could miss something).

Keep in mind that after you start using TextNow's phone number assigned to you, you will need to use it once a while(make calls or send/receive text message) or you will lose the number. You can request for a new number though, so if you don't care about the number much like I do(I mostly make outgoing calls as a backup phone), then you don't worry about losing the number due to inactivity.

Hope that helps.

From my experience, it looks to be VOIP number, like Google voice number.

That's why use Paypal checkout or Virtual Card with $1 limit

Does anyone know if they have e-sim option? Thinking if this deal can work on LTE watch to make calls and texts?

I've used TextNow on my backup device for many months.
Very satisfied with their free (ad-supported) Tmobile service.
What kind of ad and how do they send it to you?

to use freedompop, you had to install their app, which basically took over all coms on the phone and then some. who knows what they mined from people's phones.

No eSIM. Even if they did, you wouldnt be able to use it on a watch, since you have to do everything through their app.

If I'm on the overseas trip for a while, 1 month, for example, how can I keep the number active?

I used this in my daughter's phone for almost a year. It was nice for her to let us know when she got off the bus or if she needed anything while we were at work. I set her age as under 18 and the adult ads went away. Only other issue was to remember to call/text once a month to keep the number.

i know, but them using a sim instead of a pure app may seem to people
that it's less virtual and more equipment based - thus i posted it may not.
True, and that's a good info to share with the new users. Thanks! For confirmation purpose, we have the option to pick call back instead of text message, which could be a workaround.

This is a wireless service good for seniors(who may not care about data), kids(I don't want them to use data watching Youtube etc at school or on the school bus...too much screen time), or a backup phone. It's not a replacement for us for daily primary use because we do need data.

I used them for a while at a previous job so I didn't have to use my real number when calling clients. Worked well for that.

One issue I ran into was very choppy audio. After doing some searching, it seemed to be an issue with my Samsung Watch 4 and the app's Bluetooth connection. I revoked its permission to access Bluetooth, and the choppy audio went away. The only downside was that the app would occasionally show a red banner asking me to grant it permission again. I just ignored it.
Good to know, thanks!

Do they tell you that the number is going to be lost. Or does it just randomly show up as no number attached?
