It definitely isn't for everyone especially at this price point but for my needs it is pretty much perfect. There are pros and cons and it may not be the device for you.

To answer some questions:

- Yes you are required to own a PS5 to use this.
- No you do not need to be on the same network as the PS5.
- It does work over the internet back to your PS5 at home which I have done. (Recommend you hardwire your PS5 though)
- It serves no other function than playing your PS5 on a mobile device.
- It does not have Bluetooth.
- it has a standard headphone jack.
- If you want wireless headphones you have to purchase Sony's "Pulse Explore" headphones.
- The controller functions just as a standard PS5 controller with all the features. (Trackpad is a soft button using the touchscreen)
- It cannot connect to WiFi that requires a captive portal as there is no built-in browser to accept terms etc…

As a side note:
I own both a Backbone and this. They each have their pros and cons. The Backbone was by no means a bad setup. I loved it. I just didn't prefer the smaller screen I was using and the layout of the buttons compared to a standard PS5 controller. The Backbone using a phone did have the big advantage of being able to connect to any type of WiFi and some of the concerns people have about having to remove their case to use it didn't apply to me because I just dedicated one of my old phones sitting around to this.

One other thing is that they do make the PS Remote Play app for the iPad and you can use a Bluetooth controller with it so that could be an option for those who already own an iPad and want a bigger screen than this.

At the end of the day it's not for everyone and there are other options out there like installing Chiaki on a hacked Switch or a Steam Deck. That app can allow you to do PS5 Remote Play on your existing mobile gaming device. For the Switch you of course need one that's running custom firmware though. So that is a potential issue for some.

I was eager to get one of these but then I learned it doesn't smoothly handle multiple profiles. That's a killer for me so I'll go for a more expensive steam deck like device.
Nice for those who this works for

It's crazy how these were impossible to get for months, and now PS seems to have plenty, as they are still available for a second day as far as I can tell.

Unfortunately, I didn't have a good experience with this thing myself. Got one in Early January, from Amazon (after a month of wait, and month of trying to order one before that), and it came with a stuck pixel that was very obvious and annoying. Ended up returning the unit, and decided to pass on it all together. I've noticed some people posting videos on YT, with same stuck pixels (not the same exact pixel stuck, but the same issue), and when I pointed it out, they were surprised as they haven't noticed it themselves.

If you get one, I recommend checking it carefully to make sure you got a good panel. If not, exchange why you can.

if you want to play a game that is not digital, do you have to have the disk in the PS5?

Each one sold is counted as a "console Sold".... I know right... I had to look it up to believe it myself.

Lol. What in the world are you talking about? Sony's exclusives sell millions of copies, and when it comes to multiplatform games, they sell more on PlayStation than any other platform. A lot of times, they even sell more than Xbox and PC, combined.
out of your mind, Sony has NO ips worh playing

I am cool with backbone. This connects as a remote play right? Therefore, shared games are not accessible.

Naw fam, Steam Deck is the way to go 99% of the time. Logitech Cloud is pretty cool too.

To others, Sony is an unethical and increasingly woke corporation, you should probably not give them money.
LOL, clearly someone can't form their own opinions. "Woke"....

They use ai to monitor all VoIP and in game chat. You are paying both upfront and monthly to be spied on.
Wait until you hear about Google, Apple, Facebook, Amazon, etc.

At least on pc you can unplug the mic.
Just not laptops...or your cell phone for that matter. And the microphone is the least of your concern. They don't actually care about hearing you breathe. Your data and browsing habits are far more valuable.

Idea, you could always do the thing from those old spy movies and play a radio really loud when you want have private conversation Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

I guess you're in denial? You do know that your precious Sony is going to release their games on PC, day and date. Apparently, they sell more consoles than games, and can't recoup. In turn, they have changed their old stregedy completely.

The next triple AAA title they release won't be till 2025. This doesn't affect me in the least, because I don't need to simp for any one company. I own every gaming device, along with a pc. That's because I'm a gamer, not an elitist.
I honestly don't know how you can stand being so cool. LOL

Why buy this when you can buy the Logitech G cloud for the similar money, and can also play xbox and emulation? Not hating the deal, just curious? G cloud has a much better form factor and versatility

Thanks for the write up. The way they word it on the playstation site "play over your home wifi" means to me that you have to be at home on your home wifi. So, I never really understood who this product was really for. Now I'm actually considering one. If it was 120hz it would be an automatic buy.

I'm excited for the eventual race to the bottom like the recent Backbone One fire sales. It's definitely neat to be able to stream gameplay via home wireless networks, but less so over an internet connection. Broadband in the states still doesn't make that a viable option to play a console.

For anyone that gets this, I am unable to hardwire my PS5 but have a decent router. I needed to force most of my other devices to 2.4ghz to get it working well. So if it runs bad for you just do that first before you get too mad. I have separate 2.4 and 5ghz bands but always default to putting stuff on 5ghz. I had 22 devices on it...none of which were doing much, but it didn't seem to matter. Now it works fine for me.
Yep, 2.4ghz has more range, but 5ghz has more bandwidth (among other things). So, depending on how far away something is from the router/access point, the greater the chance you'll need to use 2.4 for that device.
